I think we need a category for "One-Album Wonders", since some groups get that huge hit, then a couple of decent sized hits with the follow-ups off that album, but the next album bombs. It's the Hootie and the Blowfish syndrome. And I think that's kind of the case for Fuel, Vertical Horizon, Sum 41, and Alicia Keys. I think Nelly is varied enough to keep a solid career, even if she never gets quite the same amount of airplay again she'll still have a decent following.

There, I feel better now.

Again, I have to argue against Fuel being listed in this manner. They've had hits off of both of their albums. "Glimmer" off of Sunburn and the hits off of Something Like Human

I totally agree spf2119...I find what the 80's did for One Hit Wonders, the 90's did for One Hit Album...as you stated, Hootie and the Blowfish will ever be the best example of this.

As for more 2001 one hit wonders:
City High - What would you do?
I'm almost sure Alien Ant Farm - "Smooth Criminal" will be in here shortly...i don't think "Movies" is getting that much airplay...you guys tell me over there...and what is up with the singer hair cut...sheeeshh...
I will agree with Yun and include "Bodies" form Drowning Pool
And I'm almost willing to put POD "Alive" in there, but i think they should have more hits.
Later...

Yeah, POD had another hit before "Alive" though I forgot what it was. And their new single (Youth of the Nation I believe it's called) is becoming a hit.

On a local radio station here, this women called to say that the lead singer of Linkin Park sounds like "that guy from the Backstreet Boys" and there was a huge debate over that on the station. I personally wouldn't classify them as boy bandish at all.

The song`s called Shimmer, not Glimmer. And Fuel have had a multitude of hits off both their albums. Not that I particularly like any of those hits, but they`ve had `em.

It depends on your definition of "hit."

POD had "Southtown" and "Rock Tha Party"

I don't know why I always do that with that Fuel song, I have no idea why.

Coldplay are actually very huge in Europe and Australia. Thier CD 'Parachutes' is PACKED with amazingly good songs that go WAY beyond the goodness of 'yellow'. You should check it out. If not, then at least download the song 'Shiver' from your local peer to peer local, its a fine piece of musak, it is.

What is funny about Movies is that they had released it as their first single and it didn't really take off so then after Smooth Criminal came out, "Movies" got another go around.

Someone mentioned Michelle Branch which is good because I only just remembered her like Monday.

Was Nine Days "Story of A Girl" 2001? or 2000?

Well, you see, IMO, this thread is flawed from the start. You can't judge 2001 One Hit Wonders already. Bands go a few months between new singles, and their sophomore single may bomb, so you have to wait until a third single to truly judge. So, in some cases, it may be a year(or more) before you can determine whether someone is truly a one hit wonder.

And, after saying that, I can't really think of anything new to add. I'll just stick with some of the same things people said. Crazy Town, Alien Ant Farm(even though it hasn't been long enough on them to truly judge, but starting off with a cover song is always bad), and, even if I like them, I gotta put Lifehouse in this category(but, then again, Breathing seems to be picking up more play than Sick Cycle Carousel did...not like that's saying much.)

I'm saying Ray J gets the Aaron Carter/Lil Romeo penalty and gets credited with nothing because he's only there because of who he's related to.

POD was Number One on TRL with "Rock the Party" in their previous album, so that one was a hit. POD, nevertheless, SUCKKKKKKKKSSSSSSS.

Alien Ant Farm's "Movies" was played a bunch on KROQ out here well before the whole Smooth Criminal song. And the MTVs seem to be playing the crud out of the new version of the video. Although that could just be a push for Mr. Miyagi more than anything.

Question: If the current SevenDust song gets over enough, do they get credit for one hit or do they have two because of their involvement in that "Angel's Son" song that was big over the summer?

Hey, has anyone proposed Willa Ford's "I Wanna Be Bad"? It was fairly big on TRL for a while there, to a point where she did one of the suckiest live performances on MTV I've ever seen. Although that's probably due to the skankiness of the video and Ford. She made it onto the cover of a few of them PG-13 Men's Magazines, though.

Chris-Hoping Mr. Cheeks survives to see another day beyond "Lights, Camera, Action". For obvious reasons.

I say Sevendust gets two because "Angel's Son" is on the new album, Animosity, so it would seem like they get exclusive credit for it.

I'm pretty sure that Five for Fighting's album with "Superman" on it came out in 2000. I don't remember hearing it on the radio until after Sep. 11, so not only is it a one hit wonder, it's a situational one hit wonder.
