| #1 Posted on 28.10.05 1250.44 Reposted on: 28.10.12 1255.15 | On WWE.com there is an article saying that Jerry Jarrett has met with WWE, and ominously stating that he was not alone. Is Jeff Jarrett about to return to WWE? I thought the Jarrett's did not have a good relationship with WWE, after Jeff apparently 'held the WWE to ransom' over the IC Title when his contract run out.
The way its worded in the article, I doubt that Jeff Jarrett is even involved.
Here is the link anyway

More likely I'd be prepared for "Long Live The King: The Jerry Lawler Story" considering DoubleJ Sr. is the one who owns the Memphis footage.

From everything I read, and remember from the time it went down, was that this was huge mistake on the part of WWE failing to re-work the tail end of Jarrett's contract which expired one day before the PPV.
Jarret had no contractual obligation to work, and didn't have his agreement with WCW inked yet. Since his expiring contract permitted WWE to pay him 3 months later, he was looking to get paid a little more timely. Not the "holding up for ransom" it has been called.
I recall JR's weekly column at the time thanking Double J for working without a contract, and wishing him well in the future.
If I had to guess, I'd agree that this is more about archived tapes than it is about JJ returning to the WWE. Maybe something for a DVD release, more likely something for the 24/7 channel.
More than anyone, Vince realizes what's good for the business is good for Vince.
A win for both sides would be a swap of tape/name rights of Dudleyz/NAO for the USWA library. Why not a joint-venture distribution promoted as a commercial on both shows? TNA could certainly use the cash to improve production, and Vince gets more material for 24/7?

You're not giving Evil Vince '93 enough credit, sir.
Anyway, you know what else my bit of speculation is? Bunk.
Originally posted by Meltzer Stories that Jerry was there to sell the Memphis tape collection are entirely untrue as he has no rights to the collection. Jarrett sold his 50% of the company to Jerry Lawler circa 1997, who in turn sold it to a Cleveland based group, who in turn, put it quickly out of business resulting in a messy lawsuit.

| #18 Posted on 28.10.05 1720.33 Reposted on: 28.10.12 1722.36 | Did you ever watch Lawler in his prime? This is a man who wrestled harley race to a 60 minute draw then was going for a 90 minute the next week when Jimmy Valient jumped in with a broken bottle. If it was a work it was odd that when JV hit the ring Race turned on him too. Lawler fought most every big name wrestler there was and defeated them ( although i was in Memphis so it wasn't like he wasn't going to). I can remember wwatching some of the first Hardcore matches on WWE and thinking" big deal. Been doing it in Memphis for over 15 yrs!"
They have Lawler writen in the script as a wussy boy but remember it is only a script. Never did understand why the WWF/WWE never would let him throw fire like in Memphis, guess they couldn' handle it. | chill

| #19 Posted on 28.10.05 1824.34 Reposted on: 28.10.12 1824.50 | Credit to the Observer:
Jerry Jarrett recently called his good friend Jerry "The King" Lawler about how he's disenchanted with TNA at the moment. He's upset that he put the company on the map but has very little power nowadays when TNA is more successful than ever before. Jerry works at the "Gorilla Position" during TNA tapings, but that's about the extent of his TNA duties.
The story is that Jerry Jarrett is supposedly there to negotiate with WWE for a big Russian wrestler he was representing, but at the meeting, he made it very clear he was unhappy with his status with TNA, so it's a lot more than about him trying to get WWE sign some wrestler. The "other guy" that the WWE.com doesn't say but probably wants everyone to believe was Jeff Jarrett, is actually some Russian wrestler, no specific name has been disclosed yet.
WWE.com seems to be doing this story to send a big public "FU" to TNA. Also, they want to rile up everyone involved with TNA, not to mention online wrestling fans as well, which they obviously have succeeded in. People involved with TNA are said to be furious. Even Jeff Jarrett wasn't aware of his dad going to visit WWE Headquarters until now.
Also, this meeting has nothing to do with possibly selling off classis Memphis wrestling tapes as he doesn't have the rights to the collection anymore as he sold off his rights to them back in 1997 to Jerry Lawler, who in turn, sold them off to a Cleveland-based group, who in turn, put it quickly out of business resulting in a messy lawsuit.
So there you go. It's not about tape libraries at all, and Jerry Jarrett has no power at TNA anymore. | ges7184
