I bought a few games... Gauntlet/Rampart, Namco Museum, Final Fantasy I & II, and Fire Emblem: Sacred Stones.
As you can see, I either like the old games or RPG type stuff. Do any of you have any suggestions for me of a few other to pick up?

PSPs are expensive and fragile with short battery lives and, as far as I can tell, a complete lack of interesting games.
The DS is also more expensive than the GBA, and while it has a few interesting games, it also has a lot of useless gimmicky crap. I own one and I like it, but I can see why a person could skip it.
To answer the original poster's question, if you like the old-timey games, get Konami Arcade Advanced and/or Activision Anthology. I've not heard anything good about the budget two-packs (like the Gauntlet/Rampart one you mentioned), but I've never played them either, so who knows.
I don't know from RPGs, so I'll skip that bit.
As for other genres, Fire Prowrestling 2 is really the only wrestling game worth getting for the GBA. Wario Ware and Wario Ware Twisted are great for quick blasts of ADD fun, Mario Kart is Mario Kart (by which I mean it's pretty much guaranteed to be great), and Pinball of the Dead is an overlooked (and thus cheap) little piece of fun if you like video pinball. | El Nastio

Reposted on: 27.10.12 0815.45 | Bad buy?! Psht. BEST buy. Until the PSP and DS come down in price and get some more solid titles, the GBA SP is the best handheld out there right now. Period. ESPECIALLY for you, Cerebus, and the games you seem to enjoy.
As a fellow OS gaming enthusiest, I offer the following suggestions....but of note firstly;
- Firstly, EXCELLENT pick up on the Final Fantasy 1 and 2. Combines RPG and classic game play. I also applaud the purchase of Fire Emblem.
- Lise is a wise woman. Her recommendation on Zelda can not be dismissed, as the Zelda series remains timeless, ageless. Unless you're looking at the CD-i, you can never (NEVER EVER) go wrong with Zelda.
- Mack Salmon brought you the idea of Mario and Luigi: Superstar Saga. He is brilliant, as you would be too if you played it.
- KJames summed up the antholigies bit most excellently.
As for my suggestions;
- RPG's have already been brought to your attention. Golden Sun has to be one of the most overlooked and underestimated series around. It's VERY solid. You already got the goods with FF and Fire Emblem. For pure RPGness, you don't need anything else. Except pay close attention to a little series called Dragon Warrior. Often overlooked by those who seek Final Fantasy, Dragon Warrior produces quality times for those who seek classic RPG goodness.
- Metriod Zero Mission is killer, as is it's counterpart Metriod Fusion. If you like 2-D side scrolling action, look no further than these two masterpeices.
- Although they are not by any means "new" games, the Super Mario Advance series WILL provide you with some good times and fun. I still play Super Mario World (Super Mario Advance 2) quite regularly. If I had the money, I'd get ALL of them.
- Backwards compatibility is our friend! Original Gameboy (and Gameboy Colour) titles can be just as great as the new ones. Most notably ALL of the Zelda titles (ESPECIALLY Oracle of Seasons and Oracle of Ages).
- Tetris. Not an RPG, but you know you want it.

I'll never pick up a DS because, if it's true what I've heard, it won't play original Game Boy games, and there are some awesome games for that system that I adore.
If you want to go really old school...try to get Super Mario Land 2 - that was one hell of a fun game. Outside of WWF Superstars, it's probably one of my favorites.
The GB port of Street Fighter 2 was quite decent (it was lacking in the framerate department, but was generally faithful to the series) and the GB ports of King Of Fighters and Samurai Shodown was hilarious, as they used the Japanes super deformed characterizations for the characters. They were also decent fighters as well.
For the GBA...I gave up on my GBA when I sold my GBA to buy the smaller clamshell edition...but I found that Mortal Kombat Deadly Alliance was a TREMENDOUS game. I tried Golden Sun when it came out, but I really didn't like it too much.
I got rid of my SP because I have bigger hands, and the buttons (at least on the face of the system) were too close to the hinge, and therefore made playing difficult. Is the Game Boy Micro compatible with original Game Boy games? If so, I may pick one up.

I don't believe so. That (and money) are the only things stopping me from getting one.
Allow me to second Tetris and Warioware. Most importantly, while its good to have some RPG's and platformers, given the portable nature of the system, you MUST have one or two games you can pop in and mindlessly play for under five minutes if you find yourself stuck somewhere with a small amount of time to kill. | wmatistic

Hands down, the *best* game out there for the GBA. You can play it casually or formulate tactics meticulously and you'll still have fun. Also, the ability to play multiplayer with just one game pack and one gba make for a lot of great fun. Also, they're Old Old OLD, but I still love my Final Fantasy Legends 1, 2, and 3. Fun, on the go RPGs (1 and 3 are fairly easy, 2 is signifacantly tougher if that's of interest). I've seen them around at used game shops on the cheap too, so you might want to keep an eye out for them if you don't mind the somewhat dated look/combat. | J. Kyle

At $250 for the standard bundle, it isn't all that cheap. However, I don't think it's any more fragile than other handhelds, nor is the battery life a problem.
As far as the game library, that has been a problem for some people, and I can see where they're coming from, but the PSP does so many other things that I am more than happy with GTA:LCS. When I'm not playing this game, I have a full featured movie and music player (I use it a LOT for watching TV shows that I missed from the night before) as well as a very nice web browser.
More importantly to me, there is a TON of fantastic homebrew software available for the PSP. Check your email, listen to Internet radio, use it as a PDA, or play one of the literally thousands of games available for it. In addition to several PSP-specific homebrew games, there are also emulators for just about every console as well as for the Apple IIe (Oregon Trail, anyone?) and the C64. There has even been some porting work done to get Windows and DOS working on the PSP.
Well, that was longer than I intended for it to be. I guess my point is that the PSP is well worth the money if you're looking for a home theater-esque portable.

Thanks for reminding me of this game. Seriously, after reading this thread, I went back and played the game for hours and hours. It was great fun again, although I'm not sure how to unlock the other characters (like my boy Luigi).
