I've been reading the Free Comic Book Day site over the past couple days. Maybe it's me, but it seems like a perfect time to get back into reading comics. The crap from '98 through '99 seems to have died down and some good books are popping up.

I think there are more and more quality books every year, thanks to the ease of publishing these days. NOW, getting your book seen (or at least in Previews) is a different story.

Thanks Odessasteps for that link. Too bad my local comic book shop isn't open any longer.

There is actually a website to find a local comic book store in your area. The site is located Here. If you enter your zip code it will give you places close to you.

which one was that? I remember walking to the Fantasy Shop in Maplewood every weekend about 5 or 6 years ago. Maybe even longer than that. Now that I'm old and fat and lazy, I can't imagine doing that.

Hopefully this went well for retailers across the country. I had to miss out since I was in the Grandstand at the Kentucky Derby all day. However, since I already buy around 20 books a month, I'm not the target audience. I hope retailers took advantage of this and made some new customers. Unfortunately, I didn't hear anything about it locally, and I haven't been able to get by my shop to get my books from last week yet, so I'll be interested to hear what they have to say about it.

i lived just outside south county and we had a small shop called Amazon comics. It was within walking distance from my job then and we would go up there on lunch a lot of times. It was nice and convenient.

We had a very crowded turnout, but we also had an artist and someone dressed as Batman taking polaroids.

Since I no longer work in retail, I was tired and not use to standing for 8 hours.

Just went to the comic shop again to see what the carnage did to the place... He still has some stuff out front on a free cart with "Free Comic Book Week" on it, and everyone looks tired and happy.

He let me know that it was a top 5 day in terms of sales for his store. I think it was a success!

There seemed to be a decent amount of people at the Comic Book shop I am now going to. Granted it was only the third week I am back into comics and the second week at this shop, but there was a fairly constant line of people buying things in there.

I completely forgot about free comic book day until Sunday night. I went to a comic shop yesterday, and ended up wasting all my money on the Lone Wolf & Cub trade paperback, and the Astroboy one.
