As someone who loved the original shorts, and Chicken Run, I completely loved the first full length feature. My fiancee and I spent the entire movie laughing harder then we've done for a long time.
The magic he can do with clay is incredible, but he also has legimately funny dialogue and scenes, which makes for an awesome viewing experience.
Highly recommended. Caution, contains nuts.

I'm a huge fan of these guys, and I don't think it was as good as some of the other W&G shorts, but it didn't miss by much. If the others were A+, this was perhaps an A-. To me, the storyline here just wasn't as strong or compelling as the others, or perhaps it was just that it was played (should I say "clayed") out a bit longer than the others.
Still, this was lots of fun, we loved it and will add it to our collection.
Years ago, well after "A Grand Day Out" and "The Wrong Trousers" were done, a friend showed me a half dozen or so of 2-3 minute mini-shorts starring these two. I haven't seen them since, but recall these being better than the others. Has anyone else seen these? I got only wierd looks the last time I asked both the media play and the local librarian for them.

I loved the film and thought it much better than Chicken Run. I was surprised at how British it is, meaning it doesn't shy away from innuendo, something you'd never see at another movie marketd as a family film. I highly reccomend this to anyone looking for a good laugh that lasts 90 minutes.

The 3-minute shorts are called "Cracking Contraptions." There are ten of them on the newly-released DVD "Wallace and Gromit in Three Amazing Adventures" (which also has Grand Day Out, Wrong Trousers, and Close Shave).

The 3-minute shorts are called "Cracking Contraptions." There are ten of them on the newly-released DVD "Wallace and Gromit in Three Amazing Adventures" (which also has Grand Day Out, Wrong Trousers, and Close Shave).

Ah, completely awesome. We were going to get this DVD anyway, as we are both Wallace and Gromit nuts. Neither of us had heard of these shorts, but it doesn't surprise me they were done. He had to start somewhere, afterall.

This is true. On the other hand, the earlier versions don't have the "Cracking Contraptions" shorts.
I've got both versions! I didn't know what else to do!

WAH! You shouldn't teach your toddler things like that.
Listen, I'm not going to bash ya for liking those flicks. I just feel they are symbolic of Dreamworks' mediocrity with CG animated features and inferiority to Pixar.

Agreed. Pixar succeeds not just because they have better stories to tell, but because they commit to those stories rather than jamming their films full of shots and one liners designed to copy or parody original films.
Take the scene where Eddy "Donkey" Murphy reprised his arrival scene in Beverly Hills Cop. It didn't make the audience think of how good Shrek 2 was, it made them think of another, better movie at the expense of the storyline and characters. It interrupted the narrative for a quick gag which only made sense to people who had seen the work being parodied.
Toy Story was an homage to fifties serials, but Pixar didn't literally ape scenes from those serials the way Dreamworks would have.
Pixar films are generally original and focused. Dreamworks films are generally derivative and unfocused.

I went last night.
I was the only person in the theater.
On the bright side, that enables me to laugh out loud at many parts of the movie with guilt.
