Same holds for psychic powers, horoscopes, and most cryptozological stuff like Bigfoot and Nessie (although, again, hope springs eternal).
Aliens I'm undecided about.

| #5 Posted on 13.10.05 0206.52 Reposted on: 13.10.12 0207.42 | I don't believe in Caspar the ghost-type stuff. I do believe in spirits, unseen forces and powers at work on the earth, and not in a strict religious type of way.
I don't believe in fortune telling and horoscopes but I do believe that the outside world factors into your personality, and in such a way the moon & stars can have some affect (the pull of the moon influences nature, why not our system too?)
I do believe in the power of foresight, but not by reading a hand or looking into coffee. I think it's more instinct that give us certain feelings and emotions before events take place.
I don't believe in the aliens that drop by and probe, spy and plan to invade us. I do believe there is life out there. The odds of us being "the only ones" are small imo. Even from a religious pov (which I am not) it would be nonsense that an uberbeing created the entire universe just so one planet has something to look at. There has to be more.
Then again, while typing the above paragraph..we study lifeforms that are pretty much unaware of us via various ways. Why would a lifeform that is far advanced not do the same to us *shrug* so I guess do I believe strongly in the probing/spying/invading aliens? not at all. but we are not alone.
And to reply to Kevintripod. I don't believe in bigfoot, Nessie and the snowman in the folklore form. I do believe there is much we don't know about our planet. A creature like Bigfoot and the Snowman might have existed (probably related, just adopted to different climates) but in such remote areas we haven't found them (failed branch of evolution?) The loch ness monster? Folklore. Urban legends. Yet there are animals in the depths of the oceans that we have not encountered yet. But they don't swim in a smallish scottish lake (despite its depths and such)
So in short (makes you wonder why i didn't do that in the first place) I don't believe in many of the paranormal cliches, but I do believe there is a lot more out there than we are aware of. | ekedolphin

And naturally I believe that angels, demons and Satan exist.
Since I believe in the Holy Spirit, it doesn't take much of a stretch for me to believe in at least the possibility of other things that are beyond current human understanding. I believe in the fundamental possibility of telepathic communication, though I don't think any human beings are capable of communicating in that fashion. Likewise I believe in the possibility of telekinesis, though again I think the vast majority of human beings don't have that capability.
I have no idea how to explain David Blaine, though.
I believe that there are, and indeed, that there almost have to be other sentient races in the universe. It's simply too big a place for me to believe otherwise. | OlFuzzyBastard

So, yes, I do believe in aliens in principle. (Although if you think they've been abducting southerners and burning circles in the mid-West, you're probably a kook.)
Otherwise, there are no ghosts. Psychics are frauds - Nostradamus wrote a lot of extremely oblique bullshit that you can read just about anything you want into. There is no Bigfoot, no Loch Ness Monster. There are no angels, no demons. And, no, there is no god. | The Goon

For every person you hear of dying and then giving a "seeing a white light, floating above my body or talking to a dead relative about how it is not their time yet" story after doctors or paramedics bring him/her back, there are hundreds of others who never experienced a single thing when they were legally dead and then brought back......WHY ?
My best friend was legally dead on the operating table for 6 minutes during a open heart surgery, and he told me that he never experienced anything......WHY ?
Yeah, I know.....God works in mysterious waaaaaays.

I changed my belief system after personally experiencing 'paranormal' type things. I've never had direct contact with a ghost (i.e., seeing or communicating with), but the indirect contact was more than enough for me. Most of my family members have also had a direct or indirect experience. It may never be substantiated but it was more than enough for me. | jwrestle

Glad I wasn't the only one. I also worried about "God watches everything you do"
I believe in aliens simply because of the mathematical impossibility that they don't exist. The Universe is just TOO big for there not to be another planet somewhere that has life. Saying they've stopped by is another story.
Speaking of the Universe being infinate, if you believe that it truely is infinate, then that means that all things are possible somewhere. If you go out far enough, you'll eventually hit whatever thing it is that you were looking for (otherwise you'd run out of planets, and therefore the Universe wouldn't be infinite). That being said, it means that somewhere out there is a planet where donuts eat people. Think about it...
Anyways, as cool as it would be to live in a world full of monsters and X-Men, I don't believe any of that stuff exists. As much as I might want it to, I stopped believing in that stuff years ago.

On the other hand, some scientists believe that the "white light at the end of the tunnel" is a hard-wired defense mechanism of the human brain designed to protect you against the pain of death. This "white light" experience seems to be triggered by a lack of oxygen to the brain. Some people who have experimented with Ecstasy have reported "seeing the white light" during their trips, and one of the things that Ecstacy does to make you high is deprive your brain of some of the oxygen it usually recieves. (Also notice that you never hear experiences of people almost dying and seeing the flames of Hell. It's always the white light or nothing . . .)
I have no strong beliefs one way or the other on ghosts, paranormal etc . . . it may exist, as far as I'm concerned, but if it does then I've never had any experience with it.
And no, The Goon is definitely not the only sick fuck. :O
