I don't think it has anything to do with that. He's just a huge comic book nerd. Hell, he took the name "Cage" from Luke Cage. Not a surprising move at all.
And hey, maybe it'll build character. Remember the Johnny Cash song "A Boy Named Sue?" They can have a drunken tussle years later when the boy's come of age and finally get some closure. | General Zod
