(image removed) And now, a lost classic:

LIST OF THE DAY: Things that now out-of-staters Aaron and I had while we were in California:

7-Eleven Slurpee
Moxie
Gordon Biersch Mrzen
Taco Bell
Wienerschnitzel

and I bought two cases of Top Ramen (an investment of $4.54!) to bring back with me - one beef, one assorted (because I already had a bunch of chicken in reserve) - you know, they sure got a lotta flavours (nissinfoods.com) these days. It's interesting how many "picante" varieties there are now. Those, I usually save until I have a cold... as they always help me drain my whatevers.

The ONE good thing about flying is I can bring back a bunch of Top Ramen without having to pay double - as inevitably, it costs more to mail them to me than it does to actually purchase them. I don't know WHY the Twin Cities are a Maruchan only territory, but it has repeatedly been proven to me that they are. I wonder if I could make my first million as a Nissin Foods distributor. I wonder what the margins on 9 food items are.

I bought the Warrior DVD last night - also my copy of "It's All Gone Pete Tong" (amazon.com) FINALLY arrived in the mail - when am I going to watch ANY of these things? I have no idea. Kim got a copy of the Criterion release of "Masculin Fminin" (amazon.com) in that same order. Best Buy actually HAD both new-yesterday Criterion releases (that I knew about) "The Man Who Fell To Earth" (amazon.com) and "Bad Timing" (amazon.com) but I passed - Kim didn't protest TOO much. (With any luck, her brother will buy one or both of them before we do and then she can just borrow it.) You know, there is A LOT of stuff coming out NEXT Tuesday...I will probably ignore ALL of it unless I suddenly feel a gripping need to buy my wife a DVD for our 2nd anniversary. OMG MY ANNIVERSARY IS COMING UP TUESDAY

I GOTTA MAKE SOME PLANS

Oh wow, I remember seeing "The Man Who Fell to Earth" in a little movie house in the Old Port section of Portland when it first came out. As a naive sixteen year old, I was totally amazed by this picture. I was a huge fan of Bowie's music at that point. While everyone else was listening to stuff like The Eagles' "Hotel California" and Bob Seger's "Night Moves," I was loving "Station to Station" making Bowie seem so cool and detached.

Thanks for the flashback.

So Maruchan ISNT out of business after all?! I've always preferred Maruchan for years & years, but they vanished from all the stores here a couple years ago. Whats up with that? After I gave up on looking for Maruchan, I tried Top Ramen for awhile. They're OK, I guess.

And while we're on the topic of Amazon purchaces, I just ordered my wife the 2 disc special edition DVD set of The Outsiders for her birthday. She went completely nuts when she saw a commercial for it last week, so I expect to receive a TON of Good Husband Points for this one. Probably not enough to pull me out of the negative however, and probably not enough to get me out of watching the DVD with her either.

And while I was at it, I finally broke down & bought The Death of WCW (the book). The UPS man just delivered it to my office today, so I havent really had a chance to look at it yet.

Nope, they run things over in CT, too. Don't think I've seen Top Ramen, but I don't exactly do the grocery shopping.

Dare I say, Top Ramen seems like it might be a west coast thing. I've never heard of it before. We do have Maruchen at our convience store (selling it at a substantial markup of $.39!).

'round these parts (always wanted to use that phrase )we have both Maruchan & Top Ramen. They're pretty interchangeable to me.

However we also get Jehling (mostly at Aldi's)...YUCK! Avoid this slimy, gooey, noodle mess at all costs.

I wanted to ask a fairly personal question--and no, I'm not trying to pry, feel free to simply say your're not prepared to discuss as the following applies to Kim as well--but since you've shared so much about yourself already, here goes.

During your recent visit to see your folks, did your Mom and Dad make any of those annoying comments along the lines of "Wow, you've been married nearly too years now", or "if we had grandkids we'd be coming out to see you instead of you coming back to see us", or did they come right out and say "Get Busy!" or something like that? Or are they cool with whatever life choices you and Kim are comfortable with, as long as they know you're happy?

I'm sure you don't need or want any added pressure from wieners, but inquiring minds with no lives of our own are living vicariously through you. When can we expect any CRZ-lings?

They didn't have any time to ask any DEEP questions like that...and/or they have an inkling of how much debt I ran up last year and know that having a papoose would be a financially risky decision so they didn't bother asking.

My current plans (which may or may not be my wife's):

1. House
2. Pets
3. Children

Me winning the Powerball Saturday would probably greatly accelerate... 1 and 2. ;-)

Putting the multiple thoughts of this thread together, then, the plan is for CRZ to hit powerball, so he can buy a house in SE WI where he can buy lots of Top Ramen, then get busy with Kim so his parents don't have to avoid asking prying questions.

By the way, in a prior career, I had a good client who was a wholesale food distributor. The margins are not very big on most non-perishables, often 5% or less, but the volume is what makes them their living. Most of the reason Ramen gets priced retail on special at 9 cents is as an advertising loss leader for the supermarket chain. It gets you in the store when you're sick so you can buy Tylenol at 6 bucks a bottle where the margins are huge.

I keep meaning to share this with you. I found a copy somewhere and it has ramen recipes for all sorts of crazy things and so far everything I've tried has been really tasty and easy to prepare.
