I just got this the other day, and I'm _MORE_ than impressed.

Everyone said the series was dead, but Spike brought it back one last time, and it blows every other installment away.

This is the game that the NES Pro Wrestling (and subsequently, the TG-16's Fire ProWrestling Combination Tag) evolved into, and quite simply, blows away anything that Yukes or even AKI has ever put out, though Spike's own previous King of Colosseum 2 comes close.

327 default Wrestlers, 500 CAW slots.... one could theoretically keep this game up to date indefinitely (aside from that a lot of WWE finishers/trademarks are missing, like the Side Effect, or Kennedy's finisher.)

Anyone else played this yet?

It's a Japanese import for the PS2.

It's also one of the finest wrestling games I've ever played. I can't wait until someone makes a WWE edit pack so I can use some guys I recognize. ^_^;

500 CAW slots? Are you kidding me? Is that through multiple memory cards, one card, or the HD? Sounds a lot better than juggling all those damn Dreamcast VMUs from FireProD.

Ive been wanting this, I need to get a way to play imports soon

It's through a save on one card.

Think about this. Smackdown : Just Bring it took 4,200 KB (a little over half a card) just for 12 CAWs.

FR takes 917 KB for 500.

A little warning though. In the intervening time between Fire Pro D and FR, Spike has got quite a bit more antsy about lawsuits, especially from Dreamstage (promoter of PRIDE) and Zuffa (promoter of UFC), and to a lesser extent, from WWE, and so anyone under WWE contract (with the exceptions of Spanky and Juventud) that were in previous versions of the game are long gone (though their CAW heads are still in the game, so if you know their moves and stats from Fire Pro D well enough, you could make them again. Angle, Flair, Kane, Booker T, and Nash even have new edit heads to reflect their more recent hairstyles. Even guys you wouldn't expect to have Edit Heads, like Akio, TNA's Monty Brown, Nathan Jones, and even Tommy Dreamer have edit heads.), and a lot of people are miscolored, like in the GBA games (especially the PRIDE guys).

Whoa, I had no idea such a game existed. Now I must ask:

- How hard is it to get our PS2 modded to play imports (I have one of the new skinny ones)?

- How tricky is the Japanese text? I played tons of Super Fire Prowrestling X Premium and FPW: 6 Man Scramble, but I gave up on the Dreamcast version - I just didn't have time anymore to wade through pages of translation guides just to set up a match.

If I recall, all that's needed is a Gameshark disc; if you boot up the Gameshark, there's an option to clear any regional locks on DVDs and games. That may help.

I owned FirePro when it was first released on the GBA, and I found it to be too complicated. Pressing a button for your breathing? Wow!

Is this game any different?

The gameshark thing will work, only thing is he needs a way to be able to swap the discs out in that once you open up the PS2 it will be reset I believe. I know its not to hard to set up the swap on the slimmer PS2s.

You can also set up the PS2 exploit if you have a action replay, memory card, method for swap, etc. http://www.exploitstation.com

I've been looking into HDadvance but haven't found a reliable place to get on yet.

The breathing rocks! It's hilarious. The FPW games all have similar gameplay and once you play it enough it becomes natural to you. I loved this game ever since I was able to pull off the Earthquake stomp taunts followed by the Earthquake splash, it was hilarious. US wrestling games never give you enough time to do that.

Also, back in college me and my friends would play multiplayer battle royals and load up the CPU with Boxers whos stats are all concentrated on punching. You could be engaged in a brawl with your friend and all it took was one punch in the back of the head from Oscar de la Hoya and you'd be hit with a critical. I've had it happen to me 2 seconds in a match, heh.

Okay another edit, I just found out some guys are working on patches to translate all the menus into english. This is the best news I have heard, and really gives me no excuse not to get a way to play this on my PS2.

CRZ/Guru, when I'm talking "burns" here, I'm not in any way advocating them. I've done translation & patch work on PS1 games before and I'm somewhat familiar with the techniques. I never was able to get a working burn, and all my stuff was played through an emulator. I know this is can become a sticky subject quickly and don't want to tick anybody off.

Will the Gameshark/swap thing work on burns, which the English patch will require? If not, you're probably going to be forced to get a hardware mod. The Dreamcast is the only box that I'm aware of that you could get away with playing burns without a hardware modification, and even then, that was flakey since the GDRoms hold 1Gig whereas CDRs go to 800.

Anyway, regarding FPW, I enjoyed 6 Man Scramble so much more than any other version I've got, just because of the extra pair of guys. I think the DC version supports more than 6 in one match, but that one I don't have. I had a blast with the Road Warriors and Dr Death.

Best finish was in FPW-G (the PS1 version). My created guy countered a missle dropkick into a dragon screw for the critical. I so wish I had a video of that spot...
