Jets' Pennington to miss rest of the season (NFL.com) according to the Associated Press.

This article's actually putting a lighter spin on it, as it was reported on "Mike and Mike in the Morning" on ESPN radio that not only is Pennington out, and there's also talk that Fiedler is probably done for the season as well. That leaves Brooks Bollinger to start on Sunday against the Ravens, and regardless of the severity of Fiedler's injury has the Jets scrambling to find another QB.

Also, according to the "Mike and Mike" program, Vinny Testaverde's agent has NOT been contacted about a possible return to the team, but Doug Johnson, Jonathan Quinn, and Jesse Palmer are slated to meet with team officials (and possibly try out) sometime today.

Certainly hasn't been a good month for the Jets...

I wonder if Heimerdinger is desperately trying to persuade the Jets' top brass to do everything in their power to orchestrate a trade for the Titans' Billy Volek, a QB he's more than familiar with ...

There has also been talk of trying to acquire Patrick Ramsay from the Skins but Johnson looks like he has the inside track since he is already familiar with Heimerdinger's offense.

Vinnie T, back in the house! Too bad he wont have a change in hell of getting any decent protection. I hope for his sake he sits out all of this week. I would hate to see him face the Ravens, in a substitute roll. He'd get slaughtered.

This would've made the most sense. Volek has shown great skills when he's come in to replace McNair. The season is still wide open, why not take a shot and do a trade?

Didn't the Titans just sign Volek to a multiyear deal? Even if they didn't, if you're the Titans with the injury-prone McNair at QB, why would you trade Volek to anyone if your third-string QB is the thoroughly untested Matt Mauck?

And even if they made a deal for Volek it would be costly for the Jets. Fisher himself said it would take two #1 picks for him to think about it.

And they just signed Vinny.

NFL.com: It looks like Vinny has been signed, which is good, but that Bollinger will start. That's good too: I think BB will do very well

Yes they did ... but I still think he'd be available for the right price. Maybe not anywhere this season, but I don't look for him to be in Titan blue next season.

Jets have apparently called the Redskins twice about Ramsey and been told No Way each time.

Titans are equally unwilling to move Billy Volek; on the odd chance McNair survives the season without losing a limb, there's still the reality he may want to retire soon or suddenly due to all of his accumulated injuries.

No team who believes they can compete (and evne those who can't) is going to trade a competent QB unless they have two other competent QBs; there's almost no value you can get back from another team worth the risk of being in the same situation the Jets and the Bears are in. And I can't think of a team that has three QBs that are all credible.

I just don't see what the Jets had to put on the table. A year ago you could have said Lamont... Takeo Spikes (is he still a Jet?) is hurt. Santana Moss is already gone... and C Mart is too old to get any sniffs.

Granted we're talking about Ramsey here, but I just don't know what they have to offer to get a "starter".

I say put Vinnie in.

Takeo Spike was never a Jet. He is a Buffalo Bill and prior to that was a Cincinnati Bengal when they were the lovable Bungles.

And he's also done for the season, thanks to a pesky torn right Achilles tendon.

The best the Jets could do was Vinny Testaverde? He's going to be 42 this year and given the way he played last season, I suspect this isn't going to end well. On the upside, I'm fairly certain that the Ravens will be able to get their first win this Sunday, and if they can't, well, it's going to be a long season.

I'm sort of surprised that they couldn't swing a deal for Ramsey. I suspect that his time is up in Washington (or just about), but I guess they really don't have anything to give up.

(And Mayhem, that is one spectacular avatar.)

I think McNair will be gone next year. He has a 50 million dollar bonus coming up and there is no way in hell that the Titans will pay that, so either Mac9 will retire or restructure and if that happens Volek will be gone.

And isn't Ramsey pretty much out of Wasington anyway, with him sucking and the drafting of Jason Campbell. I doubt anyone would give anything up for him.

And as for the J-E-T-S, let the Brooks Bollinger era begin. :)

Boy, I don't know about that one.

I'm a Wisconsin guy, and I was there for Bollinger's tenure at UW, and he was never really all that impressive. Maybe he's learned some patience in the pocket and his deep passing has improved, if not it's going to be a long rest of the season for the Jets. Then again, I hope he does well. I like the guy and everything, especially since he's a fellow Alumni, but still....

50 million? Who were the ad wizards that abducted Tennessee's capologist?

It comes from the resructuring of his contact year after year, and thats just backloaded money. The Titans tried to avoid the purge that happened this off-season for the past 4 years and this is a result of it.
