Anybody else catch the premier? Pretty brutal challenge right off the bat. I think the heat/humidity in this season will be the most brutal ever.

One thing though, no African Americans this season. Odd.

I don't mind when wrestlers put their hand up to block a chair shot, and I don't think I'd like to see people getting bitten by poisonous snakes for my amusement. I think that challenge was awfully close to crossing the line for actual danger - not that the fools had to keep hacking away at the jungle in the dark, but you have a bunch of competitive people in the middle of a challenge. (And how'd you like to be the poor camera crew that had to follow them that night?)

As usual, compelling television. And with the generally younger group this go-round, should be fun watching with a higher goof quotient

I wondered at the time with old Jim 'tearing' his triceps (he said popped) if he was unable to continue, and the producers asked the tribe to go through the motions and vote him out anyway, just to stop the annoying 'quitter' trend.

It certainly stood out that there were no African Americans there this season to unfairly get labeled as "lazy" (men), or "domineering" (women) as usually happens - maybe they were getting uncomfy with how that little dynamic's been coming out time after time.

If I were producing the show, I'd hold onto the entry forms for viable African American players, until I could get 8 of them on one season. At least that way they could form their own alliance, and have more of a fair chance. I'd even consider putting 8 African Americans on one tribe, 8 European types on the other - it would certainly get people talking.

Oh my God. I can't believe the horrible backlash they would get from doing a "Black vs. White" season.

It would get people talking, but I'm not sure if a Whites vs. Blacks theme is exactly in the best taste. Apparently Trump wanted something like this for this season of Apprentice, and NBC shot him down.

Bringing back Stephenie and Bobby Jon is kind of bullshit. Bobby Jon I can maybe see since he is one of the few people in Survivor history that have technically never actually been voted out, but Stephenie's inclusion seems pointless other than for ratings.

I laugh every time I see Gary Hogeboom on the screen. His plan to hide his identity was uproariously funny; "if anyone recognizes me, I'll just deny it." Unless there are some bitter Cowboys fans, I don't think he has a problem.

The blond magician's assistant (seriously, where they cast these people?!) looks like this season's designated hottie.

I agree that a Black v. White season is probably too controversial for a network to touch - but is there any reason it's controversial other than it sounds wrong? It's not like I see them doing an all African-American version anytime this century.

I mean, in the context of this game, it's voting blocks that have the power, so at least you'd have that as an equalizer (in theory). Still, Vecepia's win probably suggests against it, since it's been proved an African American can win.

Pardon my mischievous mind

As for Bobby Jon and Stephenie, I think one of the bigger strengths of the show is that they keep tossing in new twists, so no one can get too comfy with their plotting. I'm guessing that being Survivor 'celebrities' will be more of a negative for them, when people start needing reasons to vote someone off (anyone but me)

The piewife and I certainly watching. We're now in a Survivor Pool (a first for us) where we get blindly picked names. We got Amy, the police sergeant from Massachusetts, and Margaret, the nurse practitioner from Ohio. It makes watching the show a little bit different, in that you have built-in biases. Margaret looked really good this week while tending to all the dehydrated guys on her tribe.

That first challenge was quite the endurance test. I wonder if they planned for them to not make it there in the first day though?

Jeff Probst was on the "Bob and Tom" morning radio show last week and said that he does get "outed" by one of the ladies who is apparently a sports talk radio show host (The girl with the Kansas City Chiefs hat perhaps?).

Mrs Dunk and I are on board again and the little dunks are watching too. Loved seeing Steph come back but she is going to be a target the first time her tribe starts to slip. From the previews it looks like Bobby John may dodge the bullet again this week as one of the other pretty boys with the show muscles continues to "die".....Margaret certainly looks like one of the favorites at this point
