A rather unfortunate column...a couple of quotes from it:

"If George Bush truly listened to God and read the words of the Christ, Iraq and the devastation in New Orleans would have never happened."

"George Bush needs to stop talking, admit the mistakes of his all around failed administration, pull our troops out of occupied New Orleans and Iraq, and excuse his self from power."

There's plenty of blame to be given out, but that first statement is simply Pat-Robertson-level insane, and the second, "occupied New Orleans" is just stupid.

Call me paranoid, but I don't think we're planning to give New Orleans back.

I think what she's trying to say with the first quote, is that if we didn't have poverty, there wouldn't have been such a problem in New Orleans, but God it sounds horrible.

Jeez, those are some mighty foggy glasses there if you can read THAT into it.

At best, even taking that interpretation into it, she must be blaming the President for New Orleans poverty, which is silly in itself. But given the rather unbridled hatred she writes with in the rest of the article towards the President and the military, it's pretty tough to give her that much benefit of doubt.

Huffington and Michael Moore (where this is also reportedly posted) are not doing themselves a service by letting this person vent on their sites. I wish someone could get her some help.

Clearly, Mrs Sheehan has had a very, very traumatic experience and, in addition, she has allowed herself to be influenced by some people who, I believe, don't care one whit about her, but about their agenda. That, combined with the intense media attention to anything she did during the dead news summer months, has given her some sort of feeling of omnicience or something.

I saw this earlier today on Drudge and I was not so much amazed and saddened that the current lack of attention paid to Mrs Sheehan by the media has caused her to make such a statement.

I know that her husband has seperated from her and I understood few in her family were in support of her campaign this summer against the President. I suspect she just needs a true friend right now. One that can be honest with her and love her and not try and use her in any way.

Didn't the same thing happen with Terri Schiavo's parents.
Just substitute "Mrs.Sheehan" with "Mr. and Mrs.Shiavo", and
"her" with "them". Except it was about the Republicans agenda.

a. Keeping their daughter alive was the Republican agenda? I agree they had some idiot hangers-on who never should have been there like Randall Terry.

b. "Anything they did." What did they do besides try to keep their daughter alive? Did they lead a caravan around the country trying to impeach anyone? Did they internet-publish an article calling for vital security to be recalled from an emergency area?

Not quite totally apples and oranges...but very close.

Plus, the Schiavo's were fighting their battle since about 1994 with no national media attention. Very different from Sheehan who loves to hear her own voice on national tv and think of herself as some kind of important person.

But isn't that just simply the result of media decisions? Do you truly believe that the Schiavo's would had turned down national media attention in 1994 or any other time? Or that if the national media wasn't so bored that they decided to turn Sheehan into a national figure, there would be a damn thing Sheehan could do about it? If I decided that I wanted my voice heard on national TV, it's not like I just call up CNN or Fox and make it happen. Frankly both Sheenan and the Schivo family has received too much media attention. But that's the media's fault, not their own.

I do think that the Schiavo/Sheehan comparison is pretty valid. If keeping Schiavo's daughter alive wasn't part of the Republican's agenda for a short time, you sure could have fooled me. And while Schiavo didn't seek impeachment, they certainly sought government intervention both on the state and federal level into a personal matter, much like you could say that Sheehan is doing.

ges7184,
Well, I believe that Sheehan knows she isn't going to talk with Pres. Bush(which she already has). She is doing what she is doing for attention. She is acting like immature teenagers act when they seek acknowledgement of their pain and suffering.

The Schindlers, on the other hand, had a realistic goal in mind and were fighting for it long before the national right wingers got behind them. I acknowledge that the Schiavo case was used by the right wing.

And ges, I'm pretty sure these people do call up the meida and help them make fiascos out of these situations.

Thank you Cindy Sheehan, for making the job of people like myself who want to get our troops out of Iraq just a little bit harder.

I'm not sure if this is what she's trying to say, or if she's suggesting that if the NOLA levee contruction/reinforcement budget wasn't slashed/diverted to Iraq, then the flooding might not have occurred, or might not have been nearly as severe.

Either way, I totally agree with you that "God it sounds horrible."

I wish her the same thing I wish for the President, as well as for the NOLA displaced survivors and the troops in Iraq. Jesus' favorite greeting - Peace.
