(from PW Torch.com)
- Vince McMahon was recently pitched an idea for a character based on Dave Chappelle. Vince, initially not knowing who Chappelle was, was impressed when shown some of his comedy.
This is bad news for Shelton Benjamin. He though Chavo had it bad, he's going to have to learn about 'When Keeping in Real goes wrong' and work on his impressions of Lil Jon and Black Gallagher. Although if this leads to a skit of 'If George Bush was Black', I'm all for it. | Promote this thread! | | Matt Tracker

Even if a character was based on Dave Chappelle, it doesn't mean the wrestler would be capable (or legally able) to just ape Chappelle catchphrases.
But if Vince really wants this kind of character, The Human Tornado would be PERFECT for it. | Destrucity

That occurred to me, too, but as much love as I have for Shelty, he is sadly completely incapable of doing a Dave Chappelle gimmick.
It would be awesome if what they had in mind by "Dave Chappelle gimmick" was a guy who wins over the crowd by being really funny and cool, then snaps and runs off to Africa because the pressure got to him while the announcers wonder week after week whether he's coming back at all. What a heel! But that's probably not what they're thinking. | EddieBurkett

Yeah, but the wrestler who did that had enough charisma on the mic to make it work.
Chapelle's stuff works because he understands comedic timing, and is a skilled writer. If you've seen the Aristocrats, you'd know there's a difference between those who can tell a joke, and those who can tell it *well.* That's assuming the joke is even funny in the first place, I don't have a lot of faith in the WWE writers to pull that off. Odds are, they'll just give this to the same guy who writes the stupid Cena/Bischoff exchanges. | Simba

"I'm Shelton Benjamin BITCH !!!"
I can't wait for someone to show Vince an old tape of Beavis & Butthead. Then the writers can form a new zany tag team that would really bring in the teenage demographic and introduce them to the WWE product.

If by Africa you mean AA, and by announcers you mean Kevin Nash, that would fit Scott Hall towards the end of WCW perfectly.
And a Chappelle gimmick would bomb, it will obviously be written poorly and given to a random black wrestler regardless of whether it fits him.
Having followed nothing on the indy scene, what's the deal with the Human Tornado anyway? I saw a music video compilation of his and he was hilarious and had some good moves..why isn't he getting picked up by at least TNA or ROH? Is it his sloppiness, and/or is he just too new on the scene? | canis582

Not a bad idea. The gimmick established that Eugene learned wrestling from watching TV. Why couldn't he have tuned into Chappelle's show? Or any other? Make him a pop-culture machine now that they've moved him away from the wrestling savant machine. | Destrucity

Whoever said "Is Shelton Benjamin gonna have to choke a bitch?" is on to something. It could be a new catchphrase. Give him a choke sleeper or Kata-hajime as his new submission finisher, and the comic skits write themselves.
Shelton walks into a random bar, some guy yells, "Oh no, it's Shelton Benjamin!" The scene cuts to the outside of the bar where screams and various sounds associated with ass-whoopin' are heard. Finally, a man is thrown through the front window and lies still. Shelton sticks his head out and yells, "Orangeburg, bitch!" Bring back Road Dogg as his manager/mouthpiece/cheerleader and the fun will last for months!
