I have to admit my memory of childhood is rather dark, my parents certainly know a lot more than me heh. But the earliest memory I have is riding this bouncy horse type thing while family was over for a birthday. I assume it was a birthday because while on the horse, my mom presented me with a gift: the Nintendo Entertainment System package with Mario Bros/Duck Hunt.

My life was never the same since.

Sitting under my neighbors kitchen table and petting their dog.

I would have been around 3 years old.

I was three years old, playing in my room while my parents were getting ready for us to go see "Return of the Jedi". I don't remember actually seeing the movie that day, but I remember being excited to see it.

My whole family had come over for my birthday, my rastafarian uncle gave me a sip of his beer, and I thought it was the nastiest foulest substance I had ever tasted. I must've made quite a face when I drank it, because making fun of me being grossed out by beer was the official running joke at all family gatherings for years.

I remember not being able to understand why anyone would ever drink something so gross on purpose.

Riding in a wheelbarrow between the foundation of our house and the cement mixer. My Dad would go over some huge bumps and I would fly around. I got cement (I guess) all over me, so at the mixer, Dad would hose me off. He built that house between 1959 and 61, so I would have been somewhere between 2 and 4.

I have lots of memories from when I was maybe two years old. Most of them are pretty vague, but I definitely remember pressing my hand against a red-hot stove burner. My mom told me not to touch it because it was hot, and I was a stupid kid. I'm still stupid but my hand was fine, thanks.

My little brother's first birthday party, held behind the garage, which would make me four. It's pretty fuzzy, though. My first really clear memory is being at the beach around age five and overhearing two kids talking:

Younger kid: "Look at all the spinach in the water."
Older kid (contemptuously): "That's not spinach, that's seaweed."

There's a few pretty close together that I can't chronologically place.

I think the first, was waking up one morning in the crib crying, because I had a dream that Ronald McDonald came chasing after me with a knife and these ugly brown teeth. I still remember the dialog.

me: I thought you were a good guy
ronald: I'm a baaaad guy

I've long forgotten my earliest memory.

(Okay, I stole that from Rosencranz & Guildenstern are Dead)

Guildenstern: What's the first thing you remember?
Rosencrantz: [thinks] No, it's no good. It was a long time ago.
Guildenstern: No, you don't take my meaning. What's the first thing you remember after all the things you've forgotten?
Rosencrantz: Oh, I see... I've forgotten the question.

Getting rescued from the well I fell in - it was capped and only went down 3 or 4 feet, the opening was 3-4 feet across and I, from accounts I was not yet 2 more likely only 18-20 months, was playing with a toy truck in the yard of the new house. We had to move before everything was ready since our old house sold early. My older sisters watching me immediately cried to get my mom, who was very pregnant with my younger brother. I remember playing with my truck on the concrete well cap and Mom watching me, unable to bend down to get me. A neighbor reached in to get me and I cried at first cuz he didn't get my truck.

I didn't see what all the fuss was about, I wasn't hurt a bit. Dad came home that night and put me back in so he could take a picture. I was an ugly, dirty kid, as happy as the proverbial pig in s---.

I have very vague memories of chasing after our puppy across the field, that same summer, but I can't place them before or after the well incident.

My earliest memory is of my brother being born (which would put me at 3.5 years). My parents dropped me off at a relative's and they read me The Monster at the End of This Book before I fell back to sleep. When I woke up the next morning, my dad was there to pick me up. He had a Care Bear for me (Birthday Bear) and then we went to see my brother. The funniest part is no one in my family seems to remember with whom I stayed that night. I clearly remember being at my aunt's, while my neighbor and grandmother each say they watched me, my mom says I stayed at my great-grandmother's, and dad pleads the Fifth.

Lying in a crib, crying, while my mother was sitting in a rocking chair. I remember it was still light out and Barnaby Jones was on the television.

I'll always remember that theme song because of this and it reminds me that my mom would rather watch television detectives then take care of her son crying in a crib.

November 22, 1963. I would have been 3 1/2 years old. My mom was watching her "shows" as they called soap operas back then and the show was interrupted with the news of the shooting of the President.

Did you remember that date offhand? Or do you just know JFK's shooting was your earliest memory, but you had to look up the date?

I knew when JFK was shot and I knew what my first memory was and I put two and two together.

Oddly enough, the earliest memory that comes to me now is being at the pediatrician and lying on the exam table, having my temperature taken and listening to the wax paper crinkle underneath me. I would have been about three at the time.

Unfortunately my earliest memory was when I was 20 months old and my Dad died of a heart attack.
