Nothing has seemed out of the ordinary lately with my computer, but when I turned it on this morning, the screen was just blank. It had stopped during the whole start up process and was just frozen. So I turned it off and on again and it ran just fine after that. Fast forward to about 20 mins. ago, I restart and after the WindowsXP loading screen, again it just goes black. I leave it sitting there for a couple minutes, so I turn it off and on again. Of course when you do this, Windows tells me it wasn't shut down propery last time and gives me some options (various safe mode option or the option to start with the last known working configuration). I've tried all of these options and still nothing.
It can't be a virus since I haven't really downloaded/opened anything suspicious, and I had a similar problem a couple years ago when I screwed up trying to change the Windows loading screen (after that whole mess, I decided not to mess around with that stuff for now, maybe not until I get a new, better running computer).
So i'm not sure of any other options at this point aside from scratch with windows (which will delete most, if not all programs I have installed, but should keep my files intact, if I remember right). I dunno if I want to go through that trouble today. But i'm wondering if anyone knows what the problem might be.
I have a 3 year old HP Pavilion running XP home edition. | Promote this thread! | | JALman
