WWE.com has announced that the Ross Report (wwe.com) will return on Friday.

I used to love reading ol' J.R.'s column. I just hope that it has as much insight as it did in it's previous incarnation.

I hope so too because I used to really enjoy reading it, but given the way that WWE has try to cut back on "exposing the business" over the past couple of years by axing Confidential and changing the format of Raw magazine, I wouldn't be surprised if this is used more as a way to push angles and such, at least partially.

I'm not sure which is going to be more annoying

- the return of people over analyzing and reading between non-existent lines, lending their advanced insight into "what JR really means"

- JR once again teasing the type of things smark 'net types want to them to do, but nothing of the sort actually happens. Except I guess instead of not exerting power to make it happen like last time, he'll just have no power to actually make those decisions and be completely full of hot air.

So I'm hoping it's a parody column. Either that, or someone makes up a drinking game.

Take a sip if JR pays a compliment to Christian
Take a sip if he defends writers
Take a sip if JR says "hoss", "stud", "up and comer"
Chug if JR says "I wish we took the Light Heavyweight Cruiserweight division more seriously."

Jesus, I got referenced.

This can go one of two ways. Either it'll be a buncha half-assed tidbits designed to give some semblance of interest in the comings and goings of the "smart" community, or it'll actually-gasp!-contain some new, just-broken news each week. Given their recent hard-on for internet scoops I'm hoping for the latter, but it could just as easily slip into the former depending on the company mood from week-to-week. One thing it'll almost certainly do right is the injury/status reports, which I've missed since JR's swansong-what, three years ago now? It'll really make keeping track of Danny Basham and other assorted ne-er-do-wells a much easier, albeit no less pointless, exercise.

Add to the drinking game:

- Compliments to Shelton Benjamin and/or Rob Conway.
- Insulting remarks about Internet reports doubting Brock Lesnar's status.
- For old time's sake, a nod to Big Show having to lose some weight.

And to add to that ... J.R. commenting on someone "being a good hand".

In the end, it comes down to who wants to take the ball and run with it. Right now is an exciting time in our business because there is room at the top for young talent who want to work hard and become the next Rock or Stone Cold. Time will only tell if our younger performers have the dedication that those two great superstars brought to the table.

I have no doubt in my mind that the words "Boomer" and/or "Sooner" will be used with much regularity.

This was my first thought as well. I used to read Good Ol' JR's Ross report regularly before the WWE site was blocked from my work's internet access. His comments on where folks stood on injuries, and especially how far they have to go before returning, were pretty much the only reliable sources of information.

Don't knock the BBQ sauce - even though JR overshills it, like HHH, it is that damn good.

Also, I used to like JR's commenting on the crowd reactions, hot or not, especially given how much extra effort the boys were giving.

Since JR is no longer in charge of who gets hired and who gets released, he might be more willing to give his thought about what doesn't work.

I get the feeling it won't be the same "Ross Report" like so many of us want. The fact that is says "If you have a question youd like to ask Jim Ross, click here to drop him a line and check back here this Friday for the answer.", I get the feeling it will be WWE's answer to Mike Tenay's "Ask The Professor" Column on TNAWrestling.com
