This is the first time in years that I just can't figure out where the books are leading me.

'Sacrifice', which was running through the SUPERMAN titles recently ended with Superman beating the crap outta Wonder Woman for killing Maxwell Lord. Sure, he deserved it for killing Blue Beetle but WONDER WOMAN? Killing some one? THAT'S from so far out of left field that I was shocked and appalled by it.

Alfred, Bruce Waynes trusted butler for all these many years, recently was abducted by Hush. During this time, he discoveded that Hush wasn't really Tommy, Bruce's childhood friend, then got amnesia and forgot what he'd discovered. Now he's (Alfred's) killing tabloid photographers for trying to blackmail Bruce Wayne when they find out he's really Batman.

Despero recently returns, seemingly smarter then ever, and returns the memories of the villians who were mindwiped by the Justice League. Said villians decide to, what else, mindwipe the heroes. What the fuck!

DC's gone crazy... and I'm loving it!

DC is definately going nuts! Best part is I still have no idea what the hell Infinite Crisis is going to be about.
Which might work better than Marvel's lets preview the crap out of House of M and having it seem underwhelming to some.

To be fair though, Wonder Woman also recently killed Medusa, which also blinded her. So it seems like they definatley were building to that.

Batman is a weird thing, somewhat messing with all thats Bats lately. The aformentioned Alfred, Bruce messing with police evidence to protect himself and the whole Jason Todd thing.

Well--the life-long criticism of the DCU was thay their characters were too cartoony and lacked any real grit or depth (with the exception of Batman, to be honest--what's not to love about an emotionally disturbed SuperHero/Vigilante). They (WW, Supes, Flash, et.al.) were all these super-goodie boy(girl) scouts that many kids found boring and too clean when compared to the X-Men, Punishers, Wolverines, DareDevils and Moon Knights of the world.

It will be interesting to see what they can do with all the tweaks that they are working on. It's no coincidence that they have added (more of) an edge to Batman, Superman and WonderWoman.

House Of M is sucking for many reasons, the main one being it's major protagonist, Wolverine, who is the most overused, overexposed character in comics EVER. I'd probably be reading it if it wasn't him.

Back to DC, Wonder Woman killing Medusa doesn't count because to the majority of the world, Medusa isn't real. She's a 'Greek God', so to speak, and in most peoples' eyes, didn't really even exist. Wonder Woman killing Maxwell Lord, however, is every shade of wrong you can possibly imagine. He's a human. He had powers, sure, but someone of Wonder Woman's stature doesn't go around killing characters nowhere near their league.

There has to be some sort of consequence to this that is long standing, and I don't think I like what it might be. There is supposed to be an upper-tier death during Infinite Crisis and the way it's looking, to me, is that it might be Wonder Woman. The plan is to have a major character die and have their 'protege' take up the name. Along these lines, Donna Troy was Wonder Woman's protege and look who they've just resurrected for the billionth time... Hey, look! There's Donna Troy.

The major flaw in my thinking is that DC would be completely nuts to kill her off after just getting that WONDER WOMAN movie started. Buy you never know...

Wow--now doesn't this sound like a re-tread. During Crisis on Infinite Earths we had Thh Flash (barry Allen) die only to have Kid Flash (Wally West) take up the Flash mantle (and now Impulse has taken up the Kid Flash mantle over in Teen Titans). What is there really to gain by having Donna Troy become Wonder Woman? She, unlike the other Titans, always had a maturity well beyond her years and the entire "trying to live up the legacy" theme doesn't seem like it would fly, especially given all the ret-cons they have doen with her and Wonder Woman's stories. Who is Donna Troy indeed...

The OTHER elephant in the middle of the room is that--with the exception of Bally Allen's The Flash--these Upper-Tier deaths NEVER last (See: Green Lantern, Colossus, Jean Grey, Wolverine, Supergirl). What's to gain from killing Wonder Woman if they'll just be bringing her back in 3-5 years when it all looks so stupid in hindsight?

And about House of M, in the lastest issue number 5, Wolverine thankfully takes a backseat in the story to the natural leader Cyclops, and a little Emma. And Pulse #10 is a must read if you want to see Bendis try to rectify the whole Hawkeye thing.

You're right about the whole Medusa thing Cerebus. I guess it seems I'm one of the minority who believes WW should've killed Maxwell Lord, he had it coming. It might be a little out of character, but it's nice to see a character do it for once who we don't expect (Punisher).

From a storytelling standpoint though WW shouldve killed Max on page 1 of Omac 4 not the last pages of WW 219. I would've been pissed if I was one of the people who didn't buy Sacrifce b/c DC spent months saying "you don't have to buy anything else" --"wait you have to buy Sacrifice!" -- what is the average reader supposed to believe? end rant.

Although it did bring my favorite Jeph Loeb quote:
"You have to read Punisher 27 to understand Omac 5" heh.

This is why I don't read anything but the Ultimate line, and even those only in TPB format.

I seriously (image removed) everything I've read that has Ultimate attached to it.

Oh wait, not Ultimate Marvel Team-Up. That sucked.

It's nowhere near out of character for Diana to kill Max. Diana's an Amazon Warrior. In war, people die. Plus it was either kill Max or kill Superman. That was the only way it could end.

I only buy Ult Spider-Man and that is strictly for Mark Bagley's art. Depending on his replacement (should he ever step aside), I'd probably be gone too.

My biggest problem with the Ultimate line is that it seems to me like the writers sit around and say "Oooh, what Marvel villain or character can we "ultimize" next and make kewler, not where are these characters leading us. As Jim Lee and Rob Liefeld proved with "Heroes Reborn," most any writer working in the biz can re-mix what has come before and make it feel fresh. I'd like to see them go off on their own and create things a little more, not re-do characters or situations that came before and then act like they just invented cold fusion.

Good one Mild Mannered Madman. I was thinking the exact same thing about WW being an Amazon Warrior.

Of course, something about how Max was almost daring WW to kill him makes me think that we haven't seen the last of him (I could be wrong of course).
