Good riddance (nhl.com) you squishy headed, over priced waste of talent - I never wanted you in a Rangers uniform to begin with - hope the leafs got a concussion clause in there

One down, and how many to go? (Over-priced wastes of talent, that is.)

I'm looking forward to seeing what he can do in Toronto.

I'm now officially a Leafs fan again, something I haven't been since Gilmour was traded the first time.

You know what? At first I was shaking my head at them for signing this guy, but if it really is just a 1.5 million dollar deal with next to no bonuses, there really isn't a huge downside to this. The guy's going to be a second or even third line player, so it's not like the team's going to be built around him or anything, and the Leafs have wasted more money on guys with less potential than Lindros.

I heard Lindros suffered a concussion during the contract signing...

I have to agree with Tribal ~ signing Lindros is worth a shot. I've never liked the guys attitude, but he gets almost a point a game, and he'll be one of the most skilled #3 centres out there. PLUS, if he does get injured, his salary won't count against the cap.

One other thing I like is that the Leafs are going to be gigantic up front this year. The only forwards under 6-0 are Domi and Tucker, and Stajan is the only other forward under 200 lbs. Leafs still need another legit winger, but this year is going to be very interesting. I don't see any middle ground with this team - they'll either exceed expectations or flame out spectacularily.

One other interesting thing (that I imagine applies to more teamst than usual this year) - Everyone has something to prove. Lindros, Allison, O'neill and Belfour need to prove they aren't washed up. McCabe needs to prove that the team was right to not buy him out. Domi needs to prove he's worth the contract. Sundin needs to prove he can lead this kind of team. AND the Leafs will finally have some young guys who need to prove they belong in the NHL.

I think we're going to see a hungrier team here than we have recently.

I need you to send me some of that Kool-Aid, Mr.Heat Miser. Unfortunately, I'm in the "glass half empty" group thinking that a couple of hard hits could really decimate the Leafs' new signings.

The fact is, both Lindros and Allison are giant question marks, and in their fervour to prove themselves (and achieve bonuses based on number of games played), they could end up getting hurt. I hope I'm wrong.

I will agree that the risk/reward ratio in signing Big E is quite low for the team, though.

Some people are such class acts . . . Making fun of a guy's injuries.

If you want to hate him for balking at playing for Quebec 14 years ago, fine. But cracking jokes about serious head injuries? Ridiculous.

A guy who is 6'4" 240 shouldn't have a jaw like a glass chandelier...hence the jokes.

And yes, he's a giant prick.
And yes, his parents are giant pricks, too.

And that comes from having the unfortunate experiences of running into them all at the Sports Cafe on St. Clair West in Toronto many years ago...

Hey, Goon - no KoolAid here! I said signing Lindros is "worth a shot", the year will be "interesting" and the team might "flame out spectacularly".

Fact is, though, that because of the Belfour/Sundin/McCabe contracts, taking on these risky guys is the only way the Leafs could hope to keep up with everyone else. The moves sure don't guarantee anything, but I think that they are JFJ making the best of a less than ideal situation.

Well, let's hope for the best.

I guess I'm still bitter that when I had McCabe in my 2004 playoff pool, I wasn't allowed to count his giveaways leading to Flyer goals as assists.

Lindros played soft and he played on the perimeter the whole time he was with the Rangers - he never played anywhere near his potential - all he did was cash his checks - good luck to the Leafs but I think he is a wasted roster spot

The one he got from Tockett in practice that time was deserved, though.
Ask Rod Brind'amor.

It's a great move for all parties involved. Now Bonnie and Carl won't have to run up their long distance bill telling the coaches and GM's to give him more playing time.

Go Flyers!

I've heard so many variations on the "Player X sleeps with teammate's wife" story, on many teams in many sports, that I wonder which ones to believe.

How does Belfour need to prove he isn't washed up. He's had to excellent seasons with Toronto.

I wouldn't say Belfour needs to prove he's not "washed up". He does need to prove that after the lockout year, coming into this season at age 40 with a recent history of back problems, that he can play at a level of expected of a star goalie making four and a half million dollars.

I thought that Belfour went in for surgery when the lockout started and had about a year or so to recover from it so that he wouldn't have nearly as bad back problems when they started playing again. I swear I read it somewhere last year... but I might just be pulling it out of my ass...

Funny, I thought that during last season, Belfour played at age 38, he was playing at the level expected of a star goalie making four and a half million dollars. Why would this year be any different?
