| #1 Posted on 9.8.05 1440.43 Reposted on: 9.8.12 1440.45 | Anyone else picked-up this year's version yet? A little skeptical of the new QB system & "the cone" when I first picked it up, but I was pleased to learn there was a function to turn it off...And did so, a couple plays in the game. Thy negatives of the new passing system are...
A) Advertised to make passing easier? So now you have to worry about receivers being open, your light being on the receiver, the rush coming, and handle all this while flickering you right analog left and right? Tooooo much to think about there while just trying to make a decent pass to your receiver. The new precision passing feature is the only light in the system. Controlling where you put the ball has never been easier. Too bad I don't believe you can remove the cone and yet still have the precision passing on... B) Advertised to add to realism? You got a beam of light screwing up the "TV-style presentation," how is that realistic? In addition, the animation looks very sad while you're running with your QB and at the same time he's looking in a whole different direction. I don't think I've ever seen a bad looking motion-capture animation on the new-gens of Madden, but this would indeed be a first.
Now...other than that, how great it is to have Madden back. Haven't yet got a shot to try out the new superstar mode, but it looks promising. Most reviews are stating the graphics (as well as most of the game) have been exactly similar to last year's version...I'm noticing better shading though, especially when it comes to the field. Franchise mode as been updated nicely. Love the new addition of the overweening diving touchdowns as well. Promote this thread! | | The King of Keith

Not to say I didn't go get the game at midnight, because, hey, it's football. Just wish I had the choices this year. | Reverend J Shaft

I've only had a little bit of time to tinker a little bit with the game and won't get another chance for a few days, but my first impression was pretty good. The truck stick for the running game is a definite upgrade, and the passing cone is better used for guys who don't scramble a whole lot. But the AWR is the thing as far as QBs go this year, even moreso than their arm.

Doesn't that make sense though? Wasn't Tice always saying that Brock had lots of (physical) potential, but he just didn't have the mind of someone his age who would have been playing football since high school? | Jackson

I've been following this release on another board that contains some VERY hardcore Madden players, and the consensus is that the Vision Cone adds a tremendous amount to the gameplay. Especially when playing against someone who likes to drop back 20 yards, run around the field, and fire a pass 50 yards downfield, across his body, off his back foot. Passes like that are never completed in real life, and now Madden's basically locked it out. The other theory is that they've essentially Vick-proofed the game.
There's also the Superstar Mode, as well as the continued improvement of the defensive AI, the Truck Stick, and yes, updated rosters.
You can be bitter about the loss of the 2K series all you want, but in the meantime, you'll be missing out on a hell of a football game. | Juggalo101

Well, playing online I've had to adapt to the vision cone. Its major weakness? The blitz... The QB user almost never has the time to fiddle with the vision and at the same time find the open receiver. | JayJayDean

That's awesome, because you're supposed to pick up the blitz and switch to a hot route anyway. | EddieBurkett

| #10 Posted on 11.8.05 1518.14 Reposted on: 11.8.12 1518.22 | Hmmm... SI reviewed the game on their website (sportsillustrated.cnn.com) and gave it a 10/10 despite complaining that the Superstar mode sucked and there wasn't much innovation outside the vision cone, which they apparently really liked. Frankly, this reeks of Driv3r type PR. | ALL ORIGINAL POSTS IN THIS THREAD ARE NOW AVAILABLE |
