Well...

I saw that turn coming from two miles away. Still neat when it happened though...

Boy. Flair can't BUY a break.

So how much more interesting is the NWO now? None to me. I actually thought maybe they'd turn Jericho and HHH heel and have THEM join the NWO after Jericho cut his promo. Then they could have the NWO on both shows and a lot of it from the front AND back side would make sense. Oh well.

I really like what they're doing with Booker and Goldust. That segment was brilliant. We have a new Head Cheese.

HHH/Taker was awesome, right up until they turned it into another "arrested" angle.

When that first "security guard" popped in and speared HHH, I could have sworn it was Dreamer. And considering his face never really showed up on camera, I'm still wondering if it WAS Dreamer.

When the ref stopped the Lesnar/Hardy match, was I the only one thinking "You didn't even get down and CHECK him!"?

Another good show overall.

I had my hunch about the Big Show since they started the NWO angle. Of course the big give away tonight was...Hall didn't do the "Giant Dance!" Anyways, I think it's a decent addition. He has a past with the group and can fill in for Nash whilst injured. Of course it doesn't help them wrestling wise.

Raw Thoughts...

- Who's the only man powerful enough to over throw the roster split? HHH of course! Oy! Though the UT beatdown was ok.

-Lensar's finisher is the spinning powerbomb? I know it's impressive, but it looks lame seeing him shuffle around like that. The camera guys need to keep the camera tight on him when he does it. Also, did anyone else think that Lensar wrestled like a very large Crash Holly? He even had the walk!

-It's getting harder and harder to cheer Austin as he runs down Ric for apologizing. Badass is one thing, asshole is another. I feel a Ric turn sooner or later, but I just don't want to see it.

-Nash returns and is kicked out. Couldn't they have just said he got himself a ticket or backstage pass or something?

-RVD and Eddy continues! No complaints.

-Bubba dancing makes me sad. Stevie Richards yelling at a uncooperative table makes me happy!

-We got a guy called "Planet Stasiak" and we haven't had a Uranus joke yet!? Thankfully short.

-Ya know I hate to say it, but I like it when Hogan sings along with Voodo Child and does the chop.

All in all...better than last weeks RAW, but still below the first two.

A huge part of the nWo mystique wasn't so much the particular person that would turn, although that ha importance, it was the idea that at any time, someone could be turning or joining. The whole "who will be next?" vibe made Nitro must-see TV back in 1996-97. The WWF doesn't actually have to turn anyone else--with the return of X-Pac and the addition of The Big Show, just planting the idea in the minds of WWF fans makes every nWo match a potential double-cross or surprise attack...and gives the nWo the opportunity to be a force again. I love the addition of the Big Show. My only negative is that according to a recent WWF.com interview, Show quit smoking. I personally would love to see the return of Big Smokin' Giant.

Other thoughts:

1)They showed Hogan's title wins, and all the motivation Undertaker needs was right there in that Tuesday in Texas flashback. The writers dropped the ball not having Hogan bring that up. Maybe they will down the road, I just don't understand not bringing that up immediately.

2)I know Raw is pressed for time, but really...it should take more than one twirly powerbomb to register a TKO.

3)How great is William Regal? Until he steps into the ring and wrestles someone, that is.

4)I loved...LOVED Goldust and Booker at the movies. I was dying. To reference another thread, maybe Booker is being played like a goofy minstrel, but he's damned hilarious--and I'm seeing more fans "raising the roof" each week.

I thought aside from the excruciatingly long time it took for security/police to kick Triple H off Raw, it was another solidly written and put together show. Even having Nash show up and getting thrown out was good for a laugh.

maybe Big Show will be able to DO SOMETHING in this role... as always, I'm optimistic.

And as much as I want Booker T to step up and do something main event level, he and Goldust are hilarious together. Last week with Lethal Weapon, this week with Scorpion King... what was it?

"Not only am I the Scorpion King, but I'm five time WCW Champion... and I got this sword!"

-almost as cheesy as some of the lines in the film (Dang, it beat the frippin' Matrix for its opening!)

Thankfully, we have now been told outright that the bookers don't expect us to take Stasiak seriously... after last week, they had me worried.

another title problem solution- Bubba and Spike combine the Hardcore and Euro titles into one set of tag titles... the Eurotrash championship... The Hardyz would be immediate contenders... or maybe that's a bad idea.

Yeah, bro, I called it almost the moment the match was changed. But I was still surprised the WWF had the balls to make the turn, though.

Well... this is interesting. Certainly Austin is starting to build up a strong case for his argument that Ric Flair is intentionally trying to screw him. After all, it was Flair who substituted The Big Show for Bradshaw in the main event.

This, by the way, marks The Big Show's third stint as an nWo member. The first time was shortly after Hog Wild '96, after Hogan defeated The Giant to win the WCW World Title-- a month after the nWo was formed. It ended after The Giant won the World War 3 battle royal that year to earn a shot at Hogan's World Title. The nWo ordered The Giant to renounce the shot, and he refused. But he failed in his efforts to win the title off Hogan at Souled Out.

The Giant was a mainstay WCW face for a long time, and one of his most notable matches during this time was when he teamed with Lex Luger (the biggest face in the company) to defeat Hollywood Hogan and Dennis Rodman at Bash at the Beach '97.

Shortly after Spring Stampede, Giant rejoined the nWo. Yet Sting teamed with him against The Outsiders for the tag team belts.

At Slamboree on 5/17/98, The Giant and Sting defeated The Outsiders for the WCW World Tag Team Title. The match was infamous because it was the match in which Scott Hall turned on Kevin Nash's Wolfpac and rejoined nWo-Hollywood.

Sting was given the option to join the nWo black-and-white, but he joined the Wolfpac instead, and defeated The Giant to win sole ownership of the Tag Team Championship at the Great American Bash in June. He chose Kevin Nash as his tag-team partner. Later, Hall and The Giant defeated Nash and Sting for the belts.

The Giant's stint in the nWo (and for that matter, WCW) ended shortly after the re-unification, when he lost a loser-must-leave match to Kevin Nash.

At least they're getting use out of Big Show. Time will tell if it was the right decision, but they're trying, heh.

As for Stasiak, is he turning into Demon 2002? Walks to the ring, gets cold-cocked by the Power of the Punch, three-count. Kind of embarrassing if you were in Stasiak's shoes but he's still getting paid six-figures more than I am per year, so he's got one-up on me.

I was dying at Booker's version of the Scorpion King. And I loved how after the "Scorpion Queen" joke Goldust went back to his Dustin Rhodes voice to do the "tell me you didn't just say that" line.

I for one hope that becomes a regular feature. Booker and Goldust review a movie then present clips of how much better it would be with them in it. Just imagine Booker and Goldust doing their take on The Sweetest Thing or Spider-Man.

Some other important things that happened in RAW:

Bubba did the Bionic Elbow, and the announcers were totally whooshed. Bubba still rules.

RVD was being thrown around by Perfect, yet JR slipped and said that it was Van Dam that did the throwing.

William Regal tied Roddy Piper's record for fastest pin ever. (0:00--the bell didn't even ring yet).

Bresnar's powerbomb would be much more effective if he jumped while he was spinning his opponent.

RAW was unusually good. The fans got tired from cheering and booing before Hogan made his appearance. They should have done his segment first to maximize crowd reaction.

The women's tag match was like the last few minutes of a Japanese women's tag match--100% wild action. And for once JR and Lawler didn't talk about puppies and concentrated on the match itself. Finally.

Oh, on the Big Show turn. The sequence was just like the Arn Anderson turning on Dustin Rhodes and re-joining the Four Horsemen on a PPV a few years back: Hero stays in whole match beating up both of the villians, then after ten minutes in the ring tags the turncoat, who makes a gesture to fight the villians before turning around and doing the finishing move on the hero.

Hey, I dug it.

I think it's safe to say Booker's face turn is merely a formality now. By just being a more insane and utterly clueless version of the rock, he has gotten somewhat over. And for God's sake, he may even drag Goldust with him.

The soap opera of Flair slowly turning to the darkside (or seeming to leave a constant trail of incriminating evidence)was kinda fun and makes for interesting televeision. I like the possibility Austin is just seeing what he wants to see because McMahon's been at his throat forever.

Show joining the nWo I have no problem with (man needed *something* to do), altho as has been mentioned before I wanted to see the "Giant dance."

Eddy seems to have toned down the ugly stereotyping from his first go-round (although Lawler continues to prove why he must be hurt severely for his annoying commentary.) and I'm glad the Eddy/RVD feud seems to have legs. Hopefully they'll drag it out a little past Judgement Day and then bring in D-Lo.

HHH/Taker was awesome (stupid arrest angle notwithstanding) and it led to the LINE OF THE NIGHT from Taker (naturally)

"Take him away before I get up!"

I liked it.

I was really entertained save a few slow spots in the second hour.

Have to admit, the Goldust/Booker segment had me laughing my ass off.
HHH and Taker were awesome. I'm still not a huge fan of Taker's wrestling lately, but with the whole package is coming back together again like I haven't seen in a while, and I am definitely entertained by him IMMENSELY. Of course, before we know it, he'll have an annoying catchpharse and turn face again. Damn!

I'm going to go out on a limb and say Brock's finisher is the Argentinian TKO, or, as we like to call it, the BROCK SMASH~! or the BROCKBUSTER. Take your pick.

Those are cool. . .just don't call it the BROCKKNOCKER.

If you don't think that's a threat. . .I assume no one remembers "Taker Care of Business?"

I gotta say, this was an OK show until it was injected with The Lethal Poison that was the combo of the Hogan promo and the main event.

Book/Goldust was good shit, (aside from Goldust being in it) and right when I feared Book's complete face turn would come to a head tonight, he talked shit about the Rock and all was right with the world.

I also liked how the WWF acknowledged that nobody cares anymore about Regal either way, so they had him backstage being all heelish telling Flair he did the right thing, then showing a clip from "Earlier Today" when he was being all Alliance-era Quasi-Face Regal and calling Stasiak a dumbass. Dreamer's new gimmick should be the guy who always leaves in the middle of somebody else's promo, and makes a funny face while doing it.

Everybody seems to have a problem with the arrest angle, and generally I hate them too... but for once in WWF history, this one made sense. Triple H is not legally allowed in the arena, and not only was he trespassing, but he was assaulting a member of the opposing "company". If you think the arrest angle was stupid, then what's to stop everybody from showing up on the opposing show every week?

ekedolphin: Nice job with the nWo history of Paul Wight. I thought it was run #3 for him wearing the shirt. But like the X-Pac turn, it makes sense...there's history there, back in WCW.

But since there's other ex-nWo-ites working for Vince now, like Mr. Perfect, it begs the question...at what point do you stop expanding the nWo?

Personally, I'd still like to have Nash around to cut promos while his injury heals, maybe deliver the occasional chairshot. But then again, I'd rather have Hogan in black-and-white than the red-and-yellow. I just didn't think WWF would play the nostalgia card this darn quickly.

I noticed that too. He threw down the wig and spoke in his normal voice. And the look on his face was priceless. As if to say, "Dammit, I'm not gay! Didn't you see that angle I did with HHH and Lawler five years ago?"

Wrestling is fake. If it was real, Flair would trade Stone Cold to McMahon. Stone Cold is lame, but he can probably get 2 or 3 guys for him. Austin sucks so bad. It be worth it. Trade Austin for Benoit and a mid-carder.

Well, RAW didn't quite go as I'd planned.

With UT going over Austin Sunday night at Backlash in controversial fashion, I thought for sure that Flair would sanction a #1-contender's rematch on RAW, with Austin getting the duke. That would set up Hogan vs. Austin...the last of the "I'd-never-thought-I'd-see-this" matches. Hulk's already faced Rocky and HHH on PPV...the only big-name guy WWF's got left to face him is Stone Cold.

I don't include 'Taker in that category, because we've seen it before (although it's been a long time...thanks, WWF Flashback! Archive video rules.) Just imagine the workrate.

Somebody else posted elsewhere here in beautiful downtown Wienerville (thanks, Laugh-In) that the Judgment Day main event might be a 4-way schmozz for the strap. Man, I hate those.

The Thrill asks the question, “Since there's other former nWo-ites working for Vince now (such as Mr. Perfect), suckas gots ta know-- at what point do we stop expanding the nWo?”

I assume by working for Vince you mean working for the WWF. Remember that Hennig's on RAW, so he works for Flair. But anyway, to try and answer the question.

If you'll remember, Hennig's turn happened for a very, very specific reason: to destroy the Four Horsemen. Hennig was announced as the new “Enforcer” of the Horsemen just prior to War Games, when he turned on the Horsemen and joined the nWo. After that, he won the WCW U.S. Title from Horseman Steve “Mongo” McMichael, at which point Ric Flair disbanded the Horsemen because he didn't want to involve them in what would allegedly be a very personal issue with Hennig.

When the nWo split into two factions, Hennig sided with the Wolfpac at first, only to turn on Konnan during a U.S. Title match with champion Goldberg.

After that? Well... he didn't really do much until just after the re-unification in early 1999, when he couldn't decide whether to wear Wolfpac or nWo black-and-white T-shirts. So the entire group simply punked him out in the parking lot to put an end to that discussion. After that, Hennig formed the West Texas Rednecks, who along with the Filthy Animals, gave us the Rap vs. Country feud of WrestleCrap fame.

Anyway. If Hennig were part of a stable that the nWo wanted to destroy, I would say, “Hell, yes, he's going to join the nWo at the best opportunity.” But he's not. And since both times he's joined the Black and White Express he's done it right after turning on his stable, I don't see it happening here. To me, it seems that the nWo only wanted Hennig so that they could drive the stake into the heart of the Four Horsemen, and later the Wolfpac.

Right now, I think that a team of Hall, Syxx and The Big Show along with a suspended Nash makes for a very, very dangerous team. No longer will you see faces gaining the upper hand on the nWo for very long, not when they've got that mammoth Paul Wight in their corner watching their backs.

Here's what I would do for RAW next week-- typical nWo mind games. I'd have Hall, Syxx and Wight come out first thing, and do what The Undertaker did tonight. I'd have them thank Flair from the bottom of their hearts for making the right decision and putting Wight in Austin's corner the previous week. Thanking him for the chance to screw Austin. They'd insinuate that Flair is, in fact, with them, while in reality he isn't. But the evidence is starting to pile up that Flair is aligned with the nWo, and Austin believes it--

--yet he isn't. But it helps to continue playing Austin against Flair (who's just simply making honest mistakes), all the while putting the doubt into everyone's mind.

Edit:

To make it even better, Flair could come out later on RAW and try desperately to apologize to Austin. Austin comes out, pissed! “You screwed me, you SON OF A BITCH!” Kick, wham, Stunner! Austin starts beating the living flying hell out of Flair...

And the nWo makes the save for Flair! To further encourage the doubt in fans' minds! But keep in mind that in my scenario, Flair is not nWo-- but the nWo is arranging things to make people think that.
