Oh my fucking god...

(image removed)

Any of you guys happen to catch this on A&E over the past week? I was channel-surfing and came across a replay of the premiere episode last night, and then I sat down to watch the new episode tonight. I can't remember being more blown away by anything else I've seen on TV in years. It's the kind of thing that when you see whatever stunt or trick that he's doing, you'll be trying to focus afterward and saying to yourself, "Holy shit, how the fuck does he do that?" every single time. (The how refers to the technique or his testicular fortitude. Oftentimes, both.)

I wasn't aware of the new shows, I'll have to check them out. I do have his older shows on VHS, as I taped them a while back.

The things he does are just amazing, combining 'magic tricks' with some pretty graphic physical stunts. The most impressive stunt I've ever seen from Criss Angel is one where he walked through a crowd of people on the sidewalk, right to the wall of a nearby building, and proceeded to walk straight up the the side of the building. That really blew my mind.

Another impressive one had him taking some sort of small object from somebody on the street, and doing something with it. Can't remember the specifics here but they're not too important. The important part is that the punchline was that the object appeared again when he pushed and poked it out around the side of his eyeball. That one caused a loud "Holy Shit" chant in my living room.

Now that I'm thinking about this again, I recall the first time I ever saw or even heard of Criss Angel was when I went to the WWE restaurant at Times Square several years ago and I saw a show he was doing there. The live show was pretty cool, but I prefer his street performances, as there were a lot of weirdass theatrics in the show that don't really do much for me.

Next week with the needles-through-the-back thing is going to cause me some discomfort. I've enjoyed the first four half-hours, though. I keep thinking that Christopher Daniels should learn the levitation thing for his entrances.

My wife watched the first one and just kept saying that she preferred "cute" magic, like bunnies in hats after seeing the human candle episode. I didn't bother showing her any more.

I don't know if it was so much the levitation, but the voodoo thing was too much for me...it's just one of those things that makes me uneasy when I watch.
