A team source said the Nets are very close to an agreement with Shareef Abdur-Rahim on a six year contract worth roughly $38 million.

To make the deal work under cap rules, the Portland Trail Blazers, who own Abdur-Rahim's rights, would have to agree to sign him to the contract and then trade him to the Nets using a $5 million trade exception that the Nets own. In return, the Nets would send a future first round pick to the Blazers.

6y, $38M. Perfectly acceptable. Took them well over a year to get him too. The Nets look to be back in contention. Hopefully Reef can shake that "loser" label that's followed him around.

Forward Stromile Swift, the only player the Rockets have targeted in free agency, agreed to terms with the Rockets on Monday evening, Swift's agent, Andy Miller, said.

Swift spent almost two weeks since visiting the Rockets considering his options, including a strong push by the New Jersey Nets , but Miller said Swift, 6-10, decided the chance to play with Tracy McGrady and Yao Ming inspired him to take the Rockets' offer.

5 - $32M they said for Swift. Another perfectly acceptable contract. I hope Jerry West has some plan b/c the Grizz seem to be starting to fall apart.

Wow, nice acquistions and at reasonable prices. See, it is possible to build a good team without breaking the bank.

Good to see the Rockets got some frontcourt help for Yao, and now with Shareef joining Jason Kidd, Vince Carter and Richard Jefferson in Jersey, the Nets should be back in the playoffs unless something else happens.
