My host has a phpWiki automatic install, and I've tried it a couple times. Regardless of what I setup for user/pass, the admin page gives me a "wrong pass/user" error. I've opened up the admin.php file, where the user/pass is stored, copied the text letter for letter out of the file, and still it's no good.
It's obviously something off with the PHP user/pass authentication (because I'm all good if I comment them out), but I'll be darned if I can figure out what. README and google were no help.
If it's this frustrating to get started, I can't imagine how it is to use. | Promote this thread! |             | Guru Zim

I've got phpWiki running, but it has been forever since I configured it. I can't recall any snags.
Do you have the option of installing the base phpWiki over it and starting over?
Since your host put it on by default, maybe if you email them they can assist? It may be a change they have made - perhaps they've changed the authentication to match some account you have with them but didn't document it? | thecubsfan

No luck there.
I can actually see what the program is storing for the user/password - it's like the 10th line down in the admin.php - so I know what I'm typing matches up with what's stored. I'm starting to think it's a problem with whatever PHP modules they're using to do authenticate, because it's clearly getting muddled there.

Yea. But I've done it a couple times with different user/pass combinations, just in case I'm doing something odd. No luck.

It's a Fantasitco auto-install - I don't know if that means anything to anyone, doesn't really to me - and after install, they've got big bold letters along the lines of "WE DO NOT OFFER SUPPORT" and a link to the phpwiki site, which is so confusing and unhelpful.
Which probably is reason enough not to try and install it anymore. Maybe MediaWiki is easier? Anyone self install any wiki and like and keep using it? | Guru Zim

We use wakka, not phpWiki.

I would triple check you're MySQL user and permissions. You should have something like phpMyAdmin, or some way of seeing what MySQL users have access to which database and there respective permissions. I'm not certain that Fantastico sets all that up for you (although I've never used Fantastico, so....)
I've had to do manual installs of Mambo on my own site - which uses cPanel and Fantastico - and most of the problems I encountered were in the MySQL permissions. | thecubsfan

Yes!
You should have something like phpMyAdmin, or some way of seeing what MySQL users have access to which database and there respective permissions.
There's a mySQL account settings screen that gives this info - but unfortunately, the permissions are set for All for that user, so I don't think that's it either.
