She won both of her matches today, creaming her secound-round opponent 6-and-5 and her third-round match 3-and-1. Three more wins and she goes to Augusta. Incredible. (I hope I don't jinx her.)

Does anyone know what differentiates this from the regular US Amateur, anyway? The USGA website implies that it allows for "regular Joe's" to play, but why couldn't they play in the Amateur?

The difference is in who can apply. People who have a handicap index lower than 2.4 (5.4 for the Women's Am) can apply for the Amateur, while it takes an 8.4 (18.4 Women's) to apply for the Amateur Public Links. Click Here (usga.org)

You know, I wonder if Hootie would have the stones to stiff her on an invite to the Masters if she wins.

He's said he'll gladly invite "anyone who qualifies", in response to a question about her stated goal to play in the Masters.

I'm pretty sure that women have played Augusta at some point, they just can't become members.

Wie loses in the quarterfinals 5 & 4 .

Awesome showing for Wie, but no Augusta yet.

From what I understand, my guess is that this will mean no Augusta ever. The word is that Wie is going to turn professional sooner rather than later (within the year), meaning she can't play this event anymore. This was her best shot to play in the Masters.

I wonder if she'll put it off, since she automatically qualified for next year's APL by making it to this year's quarterfinals. This is certainly the best way for her to make it in the short-term.
