Does anyone know what differentiates this from the regular US Amateur, anyway? The USGA website implies that it allows for "regular Joe's" to play, but why couldn't they play in the Amateur? | Promote this thread! | | wesman1111

People who have a handicap index lower than 2.4 (5.4 for the Women's Am) can apply for the Amateur, while it takes an 8.4 (18.4 Women's) to apply for the Amateur Public Links. He's said he'll gladly invite "anyone who qualifies", in response to a question about her stated goal to play in the Masters. | BigSteve

I'm pretty sure that women have played Augusta at some point, they just can't become members. | Rudoublesedoublel

From what I understand, my guess is that this will mean no Augusta ever. The word is that Wie is going to turn professional sooner rather than later (within the year), meaning she can't play this event anymore. This was her best shot to play in the Masters. | JayJayDean

This is certainly the best way for her to make it in the short-term. | | ALL ORIGINAL POSTS IN THIS THREAD ARE NOW AVAILABLE |
