Last year, he averaged about 5 points and 3 boards per game during the season, but happened to beat up on an undermanned Kings frontline, so of course that meant he was worth almost $6M per year for the next 5 years.
I think we have our winner of the annual Jim McIlvaine Award.

Nice that the Knicks are addressing the frontcourt needs and all but Zeke just justifies my purchase of NBA League Pass every day. :) | JayJayDean

Having watched him as a Sonic the last couple of years, you can just see that there's TONS of talent in there, somewhere. I would say there's a 3-in-10 chance Jerome becomes an All-Star in a different place, and I would've given McIlvane a 3-in-a-jillion chance to be an All-Star on his best day. I think Jerome needs a change of scenery to reach his full potential, so I'm not upset the Sonics didn't give him a $6 million-contract, and the thought of Jerome having five years-guaranteed is kind of scarily amusing.
I hope Jerome does well, because I can see the New York fans eating him alive if he busts. | Packman V2

In comparison to the other boneheaded moves the Knicks have made...this looks like a great one. | ekedolphin

This actually isn't a bad signing considering the Knicks' current situation. The Quentin Richardson trade is the one Isiah should be crucified for. The Knicks would be in great shape if they had stuck with Thomas & Crawford (since Richardson's & Robinson's combined presences now render Crawford, who was doing fine for them, useless), and drafted Stoudamire instead of Lee (which would have fit a need in addition to helping with Frye's development due to the rapport they have from college). That route would have given them a roster that fits all the pieces and gives them some relief from the cap instead of the albatross they have now.
The Knicks needed a backup center to allow Channing Frye to take a seat once in awhile, but I don't think a backup center is worth $6 million a year.
Considering how Frye's been being eaten for breakfast on a daily basis in the Vegas summer league, I'd actually contend (at this point at least) that James is starting and Frye will be the backup. | | ALL ORIGINAL POSTS IN THIS THREAD ARE NOW AVAILABLE |
