(Marty) Wright did a run-in during the show, and Geo Basco, in front of the fans, started laughing at Wright instead of acting scared.

Cornette lost his temper, began yelling, and reportedly slapped him several repeatedly. The general feeling of those who were there, as Cornette's actions were witnessed by dozens, was that he was right in yelling at the guy, because he had messed up a major angle, but the slapping couldn't be defended.

He was already on thin ice already for an incident in past weeks, and I wouldn't be surprised if now he was going to be one of the ten more cuts that are supposedly coming. I too can understand Cornette being upset at Basco, but him physically slapping a wrestler in front of others in the lockerroom just doesn't sound like him.

Is this due to frustration with WWE, the industry, his career, or what?

Edit - "and reportedly slapped him several repeatedly." - Meltzer's grammatical mistake, not mine. Meh, it happens.

If it weren't for Jim Ross, he probably would've been fired instead of "temporarily suspended" last month. It's gonna be hard for JR to defend him to Johnny Ace now.

Jim Cornette is an idiot.

A talented idiot, but an idiot all the same.

It's all very odd because Fertig and The Dudleyz were on Cornette's shit list, and they got fired, so he seems to have SOME pull still, even though Johnny Ace doesn't like him.

You'd think Cornette, of all people, would be able to keep himself from going bananas like that.

They did on the main page, but not on the page with the list of releases.

I never knew Cornette had General Patton within him. You can book them to get set on fire, but you can't slap them.
With Cornette gone, does this mean he and Meltzer get together for another round of alternate commentary of territories Vince doesn't own the rights to DVD's? Those were enjoyable and informative.

Anyone know what Cornette's relationship with the Jarrett's is like? With this alleged Spike TV deal about to materialize, would TNA take him on as booker?

While it's sad to see a great mind like that go, WWE was right in there decision. Cornette had no right slapping a wrestler of his, and this added on to his other outbursts is a bad pattern of behavior for a guy training the rookies. Bye Cornette, it was good while it lasted.

Two points:

1) Bill Watts owned the territory in question and didn't have to answer to superiors. Which doesn't make Watts any more correct in his dealings, it just makes him less accountable. Cornette by contrast does not own OVW (Danny Davis does) and was on the WWE payroll. So he had two bosses, not just one.

2) Cornette was within an eyelash (according to various sources) of being released two months ago after the whole Kevin Fertig/Dudleyz baseball cap incident and I don't know anyone who comes that close to getting axed who doesn't have to go back to work without "If this bullshit happens one more time...." attached to it. I'm pretty sure what happened this time around falls under that umbrella.

Just to point out what occurred on the show that was televised tonight. Wright came out to the ring to interupt a match wearing huge black plastic horns tied to his head. As he did his promo, the sweat on his face kept making the strap holding the horns on his head slide down into his eyes, so he had to keep pushing it up with a hand as he spoke.

In other words, it's understandable why someone laughed.

As he leaves the ring, he goes over to the corner where the OVW students usually sit. One of the students holds on to a kid and at least she tries to be a bit "in character" and sits in rather bemused fear. Near her, a guy just ignores Wright completely. Wright shoves the barricade out of the way, tossing the guy off to the side. He rips off his horns and then leaves through the side exit. That was it.

BTW, the Six Flags show on Friday is set up to feature Cornette's Team OVW against Kenny Bolin's Team Bolin Services. It will be interesting to see what happens there and in the next few weeks. Just because WWE isn't paying him, doesn't necessarily mean what Cornette is off OVW for good.

Corny could start a nice little fed with all the released guys. Also with Heyman's contract about to expire you got to hope that a competitive company might come out of all this.
