Anybody know what it is? Or, better yet, where I can find a list of the cheapest destinations? If I had to guess, I'd say that Atlanta or Chicago would be near the top of the list, but that's going only on the size of the airport.

Wouldn't it depend on where you were coming from?

Well, kinda, but I'm not asking for the lowest point A-to-point B airfare, as that would likely be a short (perhaps intrastate) route, or a very well-traveled route. I was hoping there was some location which, on average, is cheaper to fly to than other major destinations. For example, from virtually every origin city in America, it would be cheaper to fly to Los Angeles than it would be to fly to Portland.

For the record, my preliminary research seems to suggest that Atlanta is the cheapest, but I've only been snooping around for an hourish.

I can normally find incredibly cheap flights to DC from a lot of places. For example, Independence Air will occasionally do a $29 one-way flight special from there. I've also seen a bunch of other airlines do some crazy-cheap deals into DC.

Generally speaking, your best bets are going to be the discount airline hubs, followed by waiting for them to put on a sale.

What about Vegas? Aren't flights into there pretty cheap?

I believe I have heard that Vegas and Orlando are nos. 1 and 2 for cheapest cities on average to fly into.

It's all about how many airlines fly into an airport from your location and how far the hop is.

For example. from my location, SDF(Louisville) to Vegas, it's routinely 260 roundtrip. But from LAX, it's as low as $68. A similar short hop from SLC (Salt Lake) is $115.

Now for me to go to DC from SDF, it's around 90 bucks, but for you to go to DC from LAX, it's around 300. From Ohare, a comparable distance to Louisville, it's about 110.

Orlando CAN be expensive. High Hundreds for me (170ish), but from ORD, 115, and from LAX - $260ish

so, it varies. I am flying into State College, PA, next week and it's over 700 bucks.
