I figured Michael's reasoning was simply that he does 90% of the work in all their matches, he's the one with more (credible) titles than any other wrestler ever in the WWE, and yet not a single fan ever gives a crap about him. He could die in the ring from the beatings he always takes in these tag matches and they wouldn't care at all as long as they got to cheer Hogan.

I can't see how it would be Michaels wanting him to stop wrestling, since every one of Hogan's matches has been only because Michaels made the phone calls or the demands to make the matches happen. If he didn't want him wrestling, why would he keep getting him into matches?

I just assumed it was jealousy.

Are you thinking of his debut? If so, that was Jericho he debuted against, not Angle, unless I'm mistaken and they did have him come out for an Angle invitational on a Smackdown I missed, in which case I stand corrected.

Speaking of Jericho, the exchange between him and Cena and the "superkick heard 'round the world" were the only highlights of an incredibly disappointing (and at times downright awful) RAW.

Kane/Show vs. Edge/Snitsky was just absolutely painful to watch. Show in matches only works with specific opponents, and I've found him to be pretty unwatchable since Lesnar left, to the point where I turned to a friend I was watching RAW with and said "I think that deep down I really wanted to forget that he was traded to RAW." Other than that, I found that match served absolutely no purpose whatsoever. Which is fine, not all matches have to necessarily continue a storyline, but those that don't should at least be entertaining.

Shelton's absence goes back to something that bothered me while he was IC champion: while he was very entertaining in his matches, creative did absolutely nothing to give him a character other than "Shelton Benjamin: Intercontinental Champion." Which is a shame, because before winning the belt they at least played up the fact that he was incredibly cocky but could back it up.

Hogan on the Cabana was a good segment too, in that it really put Carlito across as a big star due to getting the rub of engaging in a beatdown with Kurt Angle on Hulk Hogan. Unfortunately they kind of killed it by having him get little to no offense on Hogan.

At least, however, they have tons to build on for next week's RAW. I'd really love to see Michaels cut a promo about how Hogan comes in and gets cheered despite him (Shawn) being the true icon, since Hogan went to the competition in the mid-90s while Michaels stuck around and kept the WWE on life support. So long as they're careful to have him try to justify it to himself but not justify it to the fans, that could work.

Confusion came because there wasn't an "Angle Invitational" back then for Cena's debut, but Angle DID come out and challenge any rookie to try and beat him. That was Cena, who nearly did. He inexplicably beat Jericho (who main evented WrestleMania 4 months earlier)clean on his first PPV, I believe Vengeance 2002.

I love your idea for Shawn's motivation. Watching the Shawn DVD, and during the real hard times for WWE (95/96/97) Shawn was one PASSIONATE son of a bitch about being "the guy" and not jumping ship. Check the end of the "Good Friends, Better Enemies" match with Diesel in 4/96. He went insane after the match, making all sorts of gestures about "THIS is where the big boys play, I'm #1", spitting in the direction of Diesel, etc. I've never seen him so passionate looking. He then did Hogan poses to mock being the "main guy". But then again, why did he fake being his friend for so long, if he was mad this whole time? Either way, I hope Shawn pulls something good out of this one and goes back to his old dickish ways. I don't want him to be some kind of "contemplative" heel that tries to logically convince Hogan why he shouldn't be there and all this psychological bullshit. Leave that to Eddie...I wanna see asshole Shawn back.

Hogan/HBK should be saved for Wrestlemania. Cena/Michaels for Summerslam would be utterly awesome, especially since Cena, Michaels and the Hulkster all had their little moment together last week. Cena can get the blowoff with Jericho in the next couple of weeks (for the PPV-ish Raw that usually happens in the months of a Smackdown PPV), and then move onto a big money match with Michaels.

No, no, no. The fans were into their segment big time. No need to treat it like a small-time feud and blow it off on free TV. That does nothing for either. You've got to put that on PPV.

Do Hogan/HBK at Slam, have HBK go over, dump Hogan, then build up Cena/HBK.

God I hated Raw this week! I might have to watch SD! this week to make up for it.

I really hate the 3 announcers, well actually I think I just hate the Coach.

Cabana and Highlight Reel, why both? At least both segments were fun even if I don't like Hogan. Carlito rules!

I didn't mind the 1st match, but then I like Edge whenever I see him and Kane is great. The other 2 guys I couldn't care less about.

I miss Shelton, there wasn't enough bouncing around this week.

Why the hell is Venus/Dupree on Raw?!? Meh!

Reallllly couldn't be bothered with the ME by this point,
I did love HBK super kicking Hogan however. Finally someone stopped the 10 minutes of posing he goes through every time hes on TV. My girlfriend was mortified. She was not prepared to accept a heel HBK, which made the turn even better for me!

Woo for 1st post!

Anybody notice how fake that wardrobe malfunction was? Either that or women go around wearing nipple pasties for no reason. I'm sure Janet Jackson would say they do.

They were probably ALL wearing them "just in case." You don't slide around on the ground in a bikini and not expect SOMETHING to happen.

Just a little musing (or perhaps more of a hope) about the HBK/Hogan situation.

I seriously doubt Hogan has the ability to put on a singles match of any length anymore. Even in the tag matches he has been in, he's been moving very slowly, and hasn't really taken even the slightest of bumps. So, I don't think this is really going to lead to an HBK/Hogan singles match at Summerslam.

Now, go back to last week when Hollywood was mentioned in reference to the mystery tag partner. One of two people were on everybody's mind when that was mentioned: Hulk Hogan or The Rock. So wouldn't it be fitting if The Rock were to make his (hopefully) annual appearance in the coming weeks to confront HBK about what he did to his Hollywood buddy Hulk Hogan?

They could either go the tag team route with Rock/Hogan vs HBK/???, or go with the straight HBK/Rock dream match, probably with the Hulkster in Rocky's corner.

This would be better for all parties involved, as Hogan wouldn't have to embarrass himself in a singles match. And quite frankly, a match between HBK and The Rock would be totally, TOTALLY sweet.

When he injured himself (shoulder, I think) right after coming to RAW, didn't they air a couple of vignettes about his return calling him "Mr. Benjamin" and had him use a line to the effect of "that's Mr. Benjamin to you."?

Furry Hippie pretty much summed up it up. I was thinking of the match when the new guy (Cena) gave Kurt a run for his money during the open challenge. I simply mixed a recent theme with a past theme.

Still stand by my original thought of Cena though.

Coach isn't great but I at least enjoy him calling J.R. on his shit.

JR: Carlito with a handful of hair!
Coach: How come you notice Carlito doing it to Shawn but you ignore when Shawn does it to Carlito?
JR: Er.. well... well...

He's certainly holding his weight more than Lawler.

The thing that's good about Coach is that he's a full heel. The King is *supposed* to be, but he only seems to do it about half the time.

Ahh always behind the times it seems, I guess that's the curse of watching RAW on tivo.

Anyway, random thoughts:

I used to be a total hogan mark, but he really REALLY needs to take himself out of the game. He is muddying his legacy all to hell. Either the WM21 induction or the "1 last match" at backlash (Was it backlash?) really should have been it. As it stands now, I'm just tired of him. I'm tired of the legdrop. I'm tired of the posing. I'm even *gasp* tired of Real American. Although, I can't bring myself to dislike him. Too many years of him being a childhood hero fight that.

Here's an example: Mrs Skarecrow wanted me to fast forward through all the parts of the tag team match where hogan was in the ring because she didn't want to see angle and carlito "beat up an old man". She also wanted me to FF through the HBK turn becuase she thought he was going to stomp on the old man on the mat.

Cena... I've always liked him, but these last two or three weeks on RAW have really proved it to me, he has IT and he is IT. He's the next guy to carry the company. He has figured out the connection that Rock had with the audience and he is channeling it, and not just merely imitating it. He's making it his own. The guy has as much or more charisma than anybody on the roster as well. So what if Cena can't wrestle like a benoit or a gurrero, neither could Hogan, and he's argueably the biggest wrestling star of all time. Taker started off pretty bad too on the workrate front. Cena has an unlimited future assuming he isn't booked into the ground.

Oh, also it doesn't hurt that Cena has one of the best theme musics I can remember. It totally fits his character and the character of a champion. Every time it hits, it gives the impression that "something important is about to go down".

It may just be selfish reasons, but I want to see a long feud between Cena and Jericho, using them to elevate each other. I don't want to see super evil "HHHish" heel jericho. I don't want to see cheating. I want to see clean wins by both men, in a program no shorter than 3 or 4 months. Have cena lose the title to Jericho at SS (for the love of god WWE, throw Jericho a bone. He's probably been in the upper midcard/main event area without a title belt for longer than anybody), and have cena take it back at survivor series. THEN you can work on Cena/HBK, Cena/HHH, or even Cena/Edge. Baring injury, Cena will be around for a LONG time. There is plenty of time to plan his future feuds.

Carlito still hasn't wow'd me. I'm not sure what the rest of you guys seem to see in him. He's entertaining on the mic, sure... but small doses of him are plenty for me. He is no Hot Rod. Plus, I have no desire to see him wrestle at all. I'll echo everone else and say "Where's Shelton? where's the real IC champion??" If WWE drops the ball on shelton, and we see him get released in 6-12 months, it'll probably be the biggest fuckup on creative's part since... well... since I can remember.

I thought Big show would make Kane look small... but on the contrary, Kane just made show look that much bigger. They are both booked as being 7 feet tall, but it's obvious that Show has at least 3 or 4 inches on kane. Is kane really 6'8" or is show 7'4"?

"Wardrobe malfunction" was totally faked... or at least forseen. She had red pasties on. She also should have completed the obstical course. I know this is the divasearch, not tough enough, but Al Snow would have dismissed her right then and there, voting be damned, if he were in charge.

So-so raw. I've seen a lot worse, and a lot better. I enjoyed parts of it a lot, and FF through the rest.
