It seems that Tuesday, Corgan took out full page ads in Chicago newspapers announcing that he wanted to reform his original group, the Smashing Pumpkins, which fell apart rather spectacularly starting back in '96 when Jon Melvoin OD'd and they fired Jimmy Chamberlain.
Chamberlain came back a couple years later, right before Corgan decided to do a 'farewell tour', then Zwan fizzled but I'm really liking his solo album, The Future Embrace, so while I like where he's seemingly going with a solo career (still with Chamberlain, probably for the drugs, I'd guess...) I'd be thrilled for a new Smashing Pumpkins album with Darcy and James Iha back.
Is James still with Perfect Circle though? | Promote this thread! | | EddieBurkett

As bad as '96 was for the band, I don't think the OD of a keyboardist counts as falling apart "rather spectacularly", especially since Chamberlain did return to the band. I think the beginning of the end was when Darcy quit and they had to recruit the bass player from Hole (Melissa Auf Der Maur).
I think this entirely depends on how personal issues stood amongst the band members at the time of the break up. Even so, with the direction they were headed (and the direction Billy seems headed), I can't see them ever reaching the same success they did with Mellon Collie.

OR, because Chamberlain's a really good drummer. Perhaps. | Omar Padilla
