Not to sound like too much of a dick, but here's a few points to ponder...

1. Majority Rules. If 100 people will benefit and 99 will suffer, it's getting done.

2. Now, in theory, I can go to the Hamptons, Martha's Vineyard, Beverly Hills, etc., and get some mansions bulldozed so I can build a McDonalds.

But one of the many phrases bandied about, governmentally, is that the government exists to protect the minority from the tyranny of the majority. And the theory might not work, due to property taxes and such.

The protection of the minority from the tyranny of the majority is (was) at the core of our republic. It isn't so much that the majority doesn't rule but that in doing so it shouldn't crush the minority.

Both sides of the threads posted here have valid points.
