It's a first step but an agreement is still a ways off. Promote this thread!

Y!: # 2 Posted on 8.6.05 1811.00 Reposted on: 8.6.12 1811.30 Any step is closer to hockey. While they still need to agree on what they'll do with free agency and arbitration, the big thing was the cap. I am hopeful that this is the start of a new CBA and the return of the NHL in October.

His owners lost, collectively, much less money by not playing this season than they did in any recent year of the latest CBA. The owners (and Bettman) needed to prove to the NHLPA that they weren't worried about tossing away a whole season to change the system.
