I know that these shows aren't ones that justify a weekly thread, but I think this week is crucial since this is Seth MacFarlane's first week of the summer repeat season. I don't know about any other diehards out there, but I was kinda holding my breath waiting for the overnight ratings to come out today (does it really matter, since there's a committment to bring the shows back in the fall?)...4.5/7 for Family Guy and 3.7/6 for American Dad. That's about a little less than a full ratings point below the May sweeps numbers...fourth for the timeslot in total viewers, but on the night, Fox tied ABC for the 18-49 lead.

Anyway, last night's shows weren't spectacular, but were good. On Family Guy, the best parts were...Meg singing a huge number, considering how much Mila Kunis hates singing (that wasn't Mila, right?)...racist Brian (especially the Benson joke, which didn't hit me till later)...escaping from Kevin Spacey's basement...the stabs at Jimmy Fallon...the SNL ending. I guess we got all of the past-character cameos out of the way, but Miss Swan? Interesting.

Over on American Dad, we finally got the inevitable Roger-background ep (to parallel the Brian-background ep). We even get the show making fun of itself for the obvious parallel with Roger's "who do you have to probe to get a chardonnay around here?" line. I love Patrick Stewart in his role, and hope he comes back regularly. Bring back Stephen Root though!

By the way, the preview for this upcoming Family Guy (6/12/05) has our old friend Macho Man Randy Savage listed as a guest star (playing himself of course).

Best part of last night's AD:

Stan: You're the alien? They said you'd be bigger...with claws.
Roger: Oh, I've got claws. Look how fat you are! See? Kitty can scratch.

Second week in a row that AD outshined FG. I think AD's hitting its stride, but I'm very much looking forward to next week's FG with Randy Savage.

I lost it on 'Family Guy' when they did the 'Revenege of the Nerds' reference complete with robot. Simply priceless.

The "1980's fix it up montage" had me rolling on the floor, as well as the name of the band "Fat, Black, Horny and Joe" (?) and the "HELLO CLEVELAND!" "Hello Peter" part. And Journey!

They already did the "Clam goes up for Sale" episode way back when, so I was worried they were recycling at first, but I liked where it went. Not the best episode, but it was still great. Who sung Meg's part?

As for AD, I'd like more Roger and Steve and less Roger and Stan. Good episode, but not as funny as the last one. Roger as an old lady was priceless. I also liked the hell/heaven poster ("smart types").

I also think AD topped FG this week (though I missed the first 4 minutes of Family Guy). Best parts were Miss Swan and the band getting up on stage, then realizing they didn't know how to play anything.

AD was great because it focused on Roger, who is the best character on the show, IMO. Roger's drunken call to Stan was hilarious.

When Bryan started barking at Dr. Diddy the whole place lost it. None of the jokes later could touch that moment.

"And this is for laughing and looking at the camera during every sketch you've ever been in. Who do you think you are Carol Burnett? You think because she did it it's OK for you. You haven't earned what she's earned, buddy. Alright, now where's the guy that slept with my daughter."
Ouch Jimmy Fallon

I've missed the past few weeks of AD because of work. Is the apathetic priest a reoccurring character? He was the best part of the show.

I thought the thing with Bryan and the rap artist was hilarious.

I was somewhat disturbed about Meg/Jimmy Fallon. I mean...I know its Family Guy...but for whatever reason, that just disturbed me.

I thought the SNL style end credits was great.

I loved Family Guy. But man, American Dad is bad. Like, "Tom Goes to the Mayor" bad, which is saying something.

Whoa there!!! Got to disagree with you - at least American Dad is *watchable*, as opposed to *stab my eyes and sever my ears* bad.

It's already been 2 days and I still can't get "Journey" out of my stinking head...

Is it wrong that I laughed at the "Sperm Dumpster" t-shirt for way too long?

The entire segment where Stewie and Bryan are writing a song was one of my favorite parts

Bryan: "That's good."
Stewie: "Is there a shorter word for intercourse?"

Oh, I know...I was just trying to comment on how weird the crossover was...almost like it didn't belong.

I think that's why it was so damn funny.

Family Guy goodness:
Jimmy Fallon, Animated Statutory Rapist

"My father was from a different generation! That's not me!"

"Cold in here?"
"No, just small."

American Dad goodness:
"You should be stoned."
"Waaay ahead of you."

"Feeling are what ladies have. They come from their ovaries."

"There's an oil spill in the garage I'm going to use Exodus to soak it up."
