It was a pretty damn good end to a weak season. The season started off great and then peaked with Jack's rescue of Heller. From there until maybe a month ago, the show was pretty damn mediocre, with a few moments of greatness each episode. Marwan's incredibly complicated plots to strike at the United States were just ridiculous and completely non-believable. Any single plot by itself, maybe, but not all seventeen at once...
Anyway, the Jack death thing was coming a mile away, but I had the feeling that it was going to involve Paul Raines' body and a shotgun in the mouth. Guess I was wrong...

Palmer confidently strutting away as Logan recieved all the credit for the crisis was great. There was just that sense that Palmer knew he was "The Man" and didn't need to be the President to still get the job done and still manage to help Jack Bauer fake his death.
I like the possibilities this sets up for next season. Jack can walk the earth (like Kane in Kung Fu) and save villagers from drug lords, or start up his own band of mercenaries for hire. I'm sure he'll just get called back into CTU again by Chloe or something, though.
Tony and Michelle, like Jack, are gone from CTU and probably won't be back unless needed. It seems as if all of the major characters from the last few seasons are leaving their lives.
The symmetry between the two love triangles (Tony/Michelle/Buchanan, Jack/Audrey/Paul) was really well done. In the end, it worked out for Tony and Michelle and they both survived, but I can't imagine what Jack was thinking hoping to get things working out with Audrey after, essentially, killing Paul. Man, this life has messed him up.
