One Main Event.
Two Wrestlers: Evil Ninja vs. the Arsenal
Four Letters: N R B W
No Rope Barbed Wire. It is a match so dangerous, an environment so hellish, that even we hesitate to do it. But the Arsenal insisted, “If we are going to do a show called Scarred for Life someone should get scarred. Last show, (IWS owner) Manny mutilated me with a broken beer bottle. So, when they surround the ring with flesh tearing barbed wire, I will be waiting, and I don’t care if Manny comes himself or if he sends his punk Evil Ninja. Either way, someone is going to get hurt and I will be enjoying myself.”

Since the last IWS Newsletter, I have been a little busy. I completed my Hi-5 Trilogy to mark the match between Kid Kamikaze and Beef Wellington in Ontario’s UWA promotion.
1. Beef Wellington and the Secret Origin of the Ass Punch
2. A Brief History of Hi-5
3. Inside the Kid Kamikaze Experience
I also completed a column that I have been threatening Chris Hero that I would write since Breakout about the relationship between him and Mike Quackenbush. (Which comes to a head this weekend during the CHIKARA shows.) It has gotten the most reaction of any of my previous columns, including a note from Quackenbush himself that the column “put a smile on my beaten weary face.”

I will be announcing details for our July 9th Philadelphia show soon. For the moment, I can confirm a few details. First for our IWS fans in Canada, we are organizing a bus trip to see the doubleheader. A bus will leave Montreal late Friday night, July 8th, arrive in Philly early in the morning July 9th, leave Philly after the CZW show late on Saturday July 9th and arrive back in Montreal in the morning of Sunday, July 10th. We will be making a stop on the Canadian side of the US border to pick up any border dwelling Yankees who want to come down with us. The price is $175 Canadian and includes a ticket for each of the two shows.
VERY IMPORTANT: to have a ticket for the bus trip at that price, you must reserve a ticket by May 28th by making a deposit of $100 Canadian by paypal (Llakor@hotmail.com) or by cheque/money order by mail c/o Michael Ryan 233 Labrosse, Pointe Claire, Quebec, H9R 1A3 or by cash at Scarred For Life. For this trip to happen at least thirty fans have to sign up. So to confirm your place get in touch with me as soon as possible.
Ticket Info for the IWS/CZW doubleheader. First Row seats for one show are $35, both shows $60. Second Row seats for one show are $30, both shows $50. Third to Fifth Row seats for one show are $25, both shows $40. General Admission seats for one show are $20, both shows are #35. To purchase tickets in advance email email@example.com
The Philly show is huge news for us. It is the first time that a Canadian promotion has ever been invited to perform at Viking Hall, and with the exception of cross-border promotions like Border City Wrestling, it is very rare that a Canadian promotion comes to the US at all to put on a show. The roster is extremely excited at the chance to come as a group to Philadelphia.
As I said earlier, expect announcements for the show itself to come soon. For the moment, the one thing that I can confirm is that the main event of the show will be a match that we have always wanted to do, but for technical reasons have never been able to present. For the first time ever, on July 9th, the IWS title will be defended in the unforgiving confines of a STEEL CAGE!
Scarred For Life – Detailed Preview
No Ropes Barbed Wire is a match that even the most hardcore soldier in the IWS flinches from being involved in. For someone to want to do it, they have to be so blinded by anger, so consumed with hatred that they become blind to the risks. That is what makes No Ropes Barbed Wire the most tragic of matches. Because for there to be so much hatred, there had to be once love.
I do not mean to imply that the Arsenal and the Evil Ninja are lovers. Merely that they were once best friends, so close as to be almost brothers when they worked together as the Fan Favourites. Probably the saddest moment in wrestling that I have ever seen is the moment when the Arsenal was fired prior to Freedom to Fight 2004 and while being escorted out of Unison, he threw one look over his shoulder to make sure that the Evil Ninja was walking out to join him and his whole body seemed to collapse a little when he realized that the Evil Ninja was staying and that the Fan Favourites were dead.
That was the first betrayal. That was the moment when the Arsenal started hating the Evil Ninja. Every ambush since then, every attack has served merely to fuel the Arsenal’s anger.
As for the Evil Ninja, we know that he is capable of casual betrayal, but can he muster the viciousness necessary to win a No Ropes Barbed Wire match? History says yes. The last time that two IWS wrestlers hated each other so much that we had to beak out the barbed wire was Freedom to Fight 2003 when the Evil Ninja beat his own brother in a match I described as “Brother vs. Brother, Ninja vs. Ninja, Flesh vs. Steel”
The Evil Ninja beat his own brother so badly in a No Ropes Barbed Wire Match that Hardcore Ninja Number One spent six months recovering from his injuries, and some say that he has never been the same wrestler since. If the Evil Ninja could do that to his own brother what is he prepared to do to the Arsenal?
Kevin Steen is not a wrestler who is normally motivated by hatred. He normally does not respect his opponents enough to hate them. But Damian, the “God of War”, is teaching Kevin Steen how to hate. On Saturday, May 28th, Kevin Steen, possibly the greatest Canadian wrestler of his generation will face possibly the most violent, the most dangerous wrestler in Quebec - Damian.
This will not be a match of good guys and bad guys. It is beyond that. This will not be a match where the match stops because the two wrestlers will stop to admire each other in some pretentious pose of mutual respect. This will be a match that will redefine violence. These two men will beat each other until one of them lacks the spirit to stand. You owe it to yourself to come to Scarred For Life just to see this match.
Dan Paysan has been busy stealing from Sexxxy Eddy. He lured away Eddy’s valet D-Vyn, making her his new “chica” and last show, he stole Eddy’s chance to win back the IWS title, interfering in Eddy’s match against Franky the Mobster. This month, Eddy gets a chance to strike back.
Since the Flying Hurricanes (Takao & Kenny the Bastard) did not defend their IWS tag team titles at the last IWS show Know Your Enemies, by a long-standing IWS rule, they MUST defend their titles at the next IWS show: Scarred For Life. The 'Canes opponents will be announced on Bloodstream, but it has been leaked that the title shot will be given to the "Two most deserving wrestlers in the IWS."
Also scheduled for Scarred for Life is a Fatal Four Way elimination match pitting the “8 Bit Warrior” Player Uno vs. Shane Simmons vs. Viking vs. the man with the second story enziguri - Tomassino.
El Generico has confirmed that he will be at Scarred For Life and that he is “looking forward to something something score.” (We really need better translators) His roommate Beef Wellington immediately confirmed that he will be tagging with El Generico, “Whether El Generico is planning to indulge in the chocolaty goodness of SKØR or whether he is planning to pick up some chicks, I’m in!” Personally, I think El Generico is looking to “settle the score”, but I do not really have the heart to tell Beef that.
Last month, the so-called superstar Shayne Hawke stole the mike from IWS announcer Brian the Guppie to tell the IWS crowd that he would be making his IWS debut at the next show. Fred la Merveille has picked up the challenge. I am not entirely certain what Fred said when he answered the challenge,he was talking so fast, but I did understand “recrues” (rookie), “Vieux Ecole” (Old School), and “Vraie Roux avec aucune asti de sens” (Untranslateable).
Broom Boy supervisor, Joseph FitzMorris has announced the forming of a new team to be called the Broomboys, featuring Pornstar Juan and Twiggy. This team appears to have been created for FitzMorris’ personal amusement, as he brushed off objections that Juan and Twiggy hate one another. FitzMorris also said that he had received assurances from IWS owner Manny that the Broomboys’ first opponents would be “a top-flight professional team”

Pro Wrestling Guerilla

Hollywood, California at the Los Feliz JCC
“Jason Takes PWG!”
I received the following write-up courtesy of James Caldwell from www.prowrestlingtorch.com
Friday night in Hollywood, California, Kevin Steen was at the PWG show where he wrestled one match and was revealed as the Fake Super Dragon. Here is the information from his match and run-in.
Kevin Steen defeated Sexxxy Eddy at 13:55. The match began with a chant of "Mr. Wrestling" directed at Steen, who warmly accepted the accolades. Steen tried to play a traditional heel role to Eddy's babyface role, but the fans were much more accepting of Steen than Eddy, despite Eddy being portrayed as a babyface. Early on, Steen established a philosophy of using his "brain" as the basis for his offensive attack, consistently using heel tactics that displayed his brainpower, all the while drawing an outstanding response from the crowd. Eddy recovered mid-way through the match and scored an amazing wheelbarrow into release German Suplex that was simply awesome. That move led to Steen falling to the outside giving Eddy the opportunity to hit an Asai Moonsault off the ropes. It was a very nicely executed maneuver, but the fans were still less than receptive to Eddy.
Back in the ring, Steen recovered from the effects of the moonsault and placed Eddy atop the top turnbuckle. Eddy fought back with hard right hands then knocked Steen off the top to the mat. Eddy steadied himself then connected with a D-Lo Brown "Lo Down" maneuver, drawing a nearfall. Eddy took Steen up top where he set up for a huricanrana, but Steen jumped down to the mat and out of the way just as Eddy leapt up for the huricanrana, leaving Eddy crotched across the top turnbuckle. Steen placed Eddy in the corner of the ring then set up for a moonsault. Steen connected with an amazingly majestic moonsault, resulting in a two count only. After the moonsault resulted in a nearfall only, Steen instantly picked Eddy back up and delivered fall away, overhead reverse German Suplex, which he followed up with a pin to defeat Eddy. The fans were certainly in support of Steen throughout the match and celebrated with him afterwards as Sexxxy Eddy tried to recover to his feet to save face. Solid match.
Here is the match where Steen made a run in to reveal himself as the Fake Super Dragon.
Excalibur defeated Super Dragon at 21:20 in a Guerrilla Warfare Match. As Dragon rose to his feet after taking the piledriver and verbal tongue-lashing, Excalibur picked up the chair and went for a chair shot to the head, but the chair slipped out of his hands and flew over Dragon's head straight into the front row. Excalibur quickly retrieved the chair then completed his initial goal of cracking the chair over Dragon's head! It was quite possibly the sickest chair shot I have ever seen or heard. Dragon appeared to be knocked out and done for the night as Excalibur made a cover for a short victory, but Dragon somehow managed to place his left foot on the ropes to break up the pin attempt. Excalibur was shocked by the turn of events and turned the match into an all out brawl. The action spilled to all four corners of the arena, with Excalibur delivering a vicious attack using chairs and the walls of the arena as his offensive attack. Dragon made his first recovery of the match with an amazing move where he took Excalibur in a headlock, ran off one of the walls of the arena, and flipped backwards for a head slam into the concrete floor. Simply amazing. Dragon returned the chair shot from earlier in the match with a sick chair shot over Excalibur's head. Dragon sent Excalibur back into the ring then went under the ring and pulled out a ladder!
Dragon sent the ladder into the ring then went back inside where he placed Excalibur's head inside the ladder and set up for the Curb Stomp. After teasing the move to milk the anticipation, Dragon delivered a simply awesome Curb Stomp with Excalibur's head inside the ladder! Excalibur reversed a power move from Super Dragon and turned it into a Tombstone Piledriver into the chair. Excalibur thought he had the match won, but only received a two count on a pin attempt. Excalibur locked in Dragon's trademark leg grapevine around the arms submission move then reached back for the chair and smashed the chair over the back of Dragon's head. Excalibur promptly took Dragon up top, but Dragon fought out and threw Excalibur to the mat. Dragon steadied himself then landed a flying butt smash to Excalibur's stomach. Dragon propped up the aforementioned ladder in the corner then attempted a running Gori Bomb, but Excalibur slipped out in time and countered with a Spinebuster into the ladder that absolutely broke the ladder! The impact of hearing Dragon crash through the metallic ladder was sick!
Somehow, Dragon recovered after the ladder incident and scored a combination of suplexes ˆ a German Suplex, a side belly to back suplex, and a Tiger Suplex, which resulted in a nearfall only! Dragon took Excalibur up top, but Excalibur fought off Dragon and scored an amazing back roll flip-over German Suplex that sent Dragon stomach-first into the mat. Excalibur scored another sickening chair shot to Dragon's head then went for a Package Piledriver, but Dragon reversed it into the Psycho Driver! Dragon took a little too long to make the pin attempt, allowing Excalibur to kick out at two. Dragon promptly set up a chair in the center of the ring and placed Excalibur's head inside the chair then went up top. Dragon connected with a sick double foot stomp to the chair, crunching Excalibur's head.
At this point, the Fake Dragon ran into the ring and attacked Super Dragon from behind. Judging from the body shape of the Fake Dragon, the fans instantly guessed it was Kevin Steen, and the Fake Dragon took off the mask to reveal that the Fake Dragon is indeed, Kevin Steen! Despite the fact that Steen has been trying to play a heel, the fans still cheered for him, not wanting to boo him. Gradually, some fans booed as he pummeled Super Dragon with clubbing right hands. Steen went under the ring and pulled out a table then placed it in the ring. Steen and Excalibur set up the table in the corner of the ring then Excalibur climbed up to the top turnbuckle. Steen lifted Dragon up onto Excalibur in powerbomb position as Excalibur stood on the table. With so much weight on the gimmicked table, the table began to bend and actually broke in half before Excalibur could deliver the powerbomb. Yet, the impact of the table breaking in half as Excalibur delivered the powerbomb was enough for Excalibur to score a three count for the victory. Absolutely amazing match!
- After the match, Steen soaked in the boos and cheers from the fans as Excalibur got in some more licks on Dragon. Eventually, Disco Machine ran into the ring to save Dragon from further beat down. With Disco Machine and Excalibur scheduled to challenge Chris Bosh and Scott Lost for the Tag Titles later in the show, it was apparent Disco was going to need a new partner. Dragon was dragged to the backstage area under the guidance of Disco Machine and officials as Excalibur and Steen smirked at the job they did to Dragon.

Best of the Best V
In the first round:
Kevin Steen beat Kenny the Bastard. Kenny got some offense in, but Kevin just abused Kenny. (Something that he has been waiting a long time to do actually, based on the way Kevin is always threatening Kenny backstage.) Kevin put Kenny away with a Steenalizer into the turnbuckle.
El Generico beat Excalibur in what has been described as a good match, but just a warm-up compared to El Generico’s next match.
In the second round:
El Generico lost to Super Dragon in what has almost universally been described as one of if not THE best match of the night.
Kevin Steen beat Chris Hero in the match immediately after. Following a great match is always tough, but Kevin and Chris rose to the occasion. Kevin won with a surprise roll-up.
In the Finals:
Super Dragon was eliminated first with Kevin Steen bowing out second. Mike Quackenbush won the tournament by beating last year’s winner B-Boy. It was an emotional moment for Mike Quackenbush and his fans as he finally the won the big tournament that he has been trying so long to win.
In Non Tournament Action:

Nate Webb & Sexxxy Eddy defeated Ruckus & Eddie Kingston when Eddie Kingston threw Sexxxy Eddy in a German Suplex who then moonsaulted onto Ruckus and Eddy got the pin of Ruckus when Webb took out Kingston. After the match, The Blackout officially laid out Eddie Kingston and fired him from the group. Sexxxy Eddy laid out the challenge for next month, for Ruckus to defend his CZW World Heavyweight Title against him and Ruckus agreed.
