From 411 by way of PWTorch (411mania.com)

Chris Benoit looks to have re-injured his neck at a house show this past weekend. During his match, Tomko gave Benoit a powerbomb and it is said Benoit landed awkwardly on his neck. Benoit rolled him up for the win to end the match quickly. Benoit felt pains near his neck and hands after the match. It hasn't been fully determined the damage, but if he has to undergo surgery, he is expected to miss 6-8 months following surgery.

Hopefully it turns out to not be anything serious.

Damn Spiff, you just beat me to it ...

Talk about things that would suck in the worst kind of way. Can he really stand another neck surgery?

I call B.S. on this. If Benoit had gotten injured, he wouldn't have done the match on Monday, he would have been sent home like Michaels was.

Oh, dammit. I hope this isn't true, 'cuz I don't know if I could go another 6-8 months without Benoit matches. Plus he's already had a serious neck injury relatively recently (May/June of '01), and how many neck injuries can he have before he has to think about retirement?

I doubt they would have risked Benoit by having him climb the ladder on RAW if he was that bad. Of course, I only caught a second while 24 was on commercial and he didn't seem to look that good...

He was never going to jump off the ladder--Bischoff came out and called off the match before Benoit could do the spot, so the segment only required him to climb up there.

Actually, if Benoit were working hurt Monday, the ECW match might have kept him surprisingly protected, seeing as Tajiri got almost zero offense and the whole thing only lasted two or three minutes. But if he had the injury that's being suggested here, I can't beleive they'd have had him do anything at all--someone else could have played the ECW alumnus.

Well, I rarely visit 411 because I generally go to the main news sites, but if they were making it up, I will never go there again.

Well, you're the one who said you saw him go up the ladder, then switched away to 24. The natural assumption is that you never found out how Benoit got down.

Yeah, because wrestlers are always climbing ladders and accidentally slipping off and landing on their heads. With nobody else in the ring and no spot planned where he falls off, I'd think the danger is fairly minimal.

But the point is, if Benoit really had a bad neck injury--and this fake Torch report wants us to believe this is spinal fusion bad--they wouldn't have even let him out there in the first place. I don't see why you'd be more shocked that they let a man with a spinal injury climb up and down a ladder than that they let a man with a spinal injury do a German suplex.

Melzter also confirms Benoit Does Not Have A Neck Injury (or at least a new one)

I think the point has been made before: if a cut & paste article says via PWTorch or via Observer of via whoever, we'd (well, I'd) much prefer you actually going to that site yourself and linking to the actual article, not the reprint. This was a fine example of why that's said.

I'm with him.
