Well it's not quite dead yet, more kind of stunned and of course, utterly pointless.

I have no problem with them splitting up some of the frankly stale combos like the APA and the Dudleys. They gave them decent send offs and, in the case of Bubba, they could make stellar singles guys (as long as the dancing stops immediately). What I don't understand is why they have Billy and Chuck on SD and the Hardyz on Raw. As far as I can see those two teams make up the tag division for the entire WWF (alongside whatever random tag generator duos you may wish to list, and yes, Maven and Snow count as random). If the tag titles cannot float between shows, then Raw shouldn't bother with a tag team division at all and maybe they should shunt the Hardys to SD, or split them up. I just don't see what motivation the Hardyz would have on Raw as ultimately they have no goal as a team (although I'm loving their interaction with Brock, what are they going to do after that? Both target some other guy together?). Any wrestler's focus should be the championship at their level, they've done a great job of making the WWF title seem the focus of several guys lately so that sort of thing could generalise, but the tag title could never be the focus of a Raw team, as they'd never get a shot.

They also need some new teams on SD, as the random team thing is never engrossing for me at any level. If the news that they may call up the Island Boyz is true then fantastic, but two teams do not a division make: they need more teams. Has anyone heard of anything the WWF has got in the pipeline? I sure hope they've got something, because as it stands we're about two steps away from those exciting Smokin' Gunns/Godwinns level feuds.

Well...

I agree with you that the tag championship belts should be floating. As a matter of fact, I think that only the tag belts and the world title should be floating-- there's no sense in having the Women's Champion go between shows, since all the actual women wrestlers are on RAW.

But I don't agree with you about the random tag generator thing, and here's why. Didn't just about all teams, to some extent, start off in the “random tag team generator”, with the exception of the real “brother” teams such as the Hardyz? Remember, Billy and Chuck have only been together since just before Survivor Series. And The Outsiders? Hell, Hall and Nash were enemies in the WWF before forming The Outsiders in WCW.

The problem here is that none of the seemingly random-generated teams have any team name. Al Snow and Maven is an example, and the recent team of Tazz and Spike (which I thought was a great team) is another.

It's clear that the WWF needs some fresh tag-teams, and this can be accomplished in several ways. First, I'd call up The Island Boyz, and I'd also call up Air Raid (A.J. Styles and Air Paris). Put Rey Mysterio Jr. on SmackDown! and re-team him with Kidman. When Nash returns, I'd have him focus much of his time on teaming with Hall as The Outsiders. Whether you like Hall and Nash or not, the fact remains that The Outsiders were perhaps the most dominant tag-team in WCW history.

I'd give Snow and Maven a tag-team name, and quick. Having a tag-team name goes a long way towards establishing a team as being “a real team” and not a “randomly generated” one.

Looks like The Impact Players reunion we've been looking for isn't going to happen, because Storm and Credible are on opposite teams. But hey, here's something for Jericho to do-- reform The Thrillseekers with Storm! We know these two have chemistry, because they used to be a real team back in the day.

I'd re-form Edge and Christian. They've been split for long enough that I think the staleness they might have had must have worn off by now.

How about calling up Shelton Benjamin, so that he and Lesnar can re-form The Minnesota Wrecking Crew? That is a team that would likely beat the living shit out of everybody.

As you can see, there are many tag-team combinations the WWF can put together-- and none of them are really outside the realm of possibility. The question is, does the WWF want to do it?

It's all kind of a moot point if they don't allow the tag belts to float between shows. But I think that might change in the near future.

The reason why the women's title can be on both shows is so they can push the 'diva of the month'.

Tagging apparently isn't important enough to put on two shows, although IMO a well worked tag match is equal if not more interesting than a well worked singles match (w/o run-ins etc)

I don't believe in Jericho and Storm as thrillseekers.
Chemistry? How long ago was that?
I'd much rather see them not put established guys together but just make a homegrown team. It can be some developmental guys, it can be some guys from the lower level shows who suddenly team up, gel and go on a streak.
But not mid/upper carders, not even if you give them some background and a name.

Island boys, and whatever guys they had team in the other feds is a good start.

Just to clarify, I'd class a "real team" as two guys who appear to be a permanent combination and have signature double team spots, who have matching/themed attire and who may or may not have a team name. A "random" team is one that seems to be a short term measure i.e. Tazz/Spike who have no real (storyline) association prior to teaming, and who split after a short amount of time. At least Snow/Maven is logical, but they'd need to team for longer in order to make themselves a true tag team.

Also, I hope they bring up "unkown" teams to flesh out the roster rather than pairing up mid carders, or whatever, but that's just personal preference.

Sure, I'm all for the WWF bringing up new talent. Air Raid, Island Boys, sure, OK.

But the fact that there are so many guys in the fed to begin with was the biggest reason for the split, wasn't it? I don't see how the WWF could benefit from bringing in another, say, 20 guys. More WWF Superstars means less TV time to go around, unless they add a show (don't put it past the SD group, since Flair's group got both RAW and Heat), so other WWF Superstars might be forced out of the promotion.

It's actually one thing, perhaps the only thing, that keeps alive the possibility of another fed rising and challenging the WWF. Because some of the WWF's talent will theoretically get more indignant, and move over to an up-and-coming fed. But my prediction is that it won't happen for at least another two years.

Even though it means having Billy Gunn on my TV twice a week - the AGD should be on both shows. That would solve the tag team situation right there.

What they should do is bring back Stevie Ray, all y'all Cheez Whiz-suckin' fruit booties! So Stevie and Booker T can win another 10 tag-team titles. Now can you dig that, sucka?

...Actually, Stevie Ray kinda sucks. But Booker T is good enough to make up for him.

Yeah, eke, you are right that there were too many guys and not enough TV time before the split, I forgot about that. Maybe then if they take some under-used guys and make them real (i.e. permanent) teams then that would be the best option. I seem to remember someone saying Hugh Morrus/Chavo Guerrero Jr. were under consideration at one point, and although I'd rather see Chavo as a full time singles cruiser guy that type of combo would be fine, in that it uses old Alliance guys who are kept around but not used and lets them get some TV time.

It may have been that I was just wanting to see some of my favourite singles guys remain as singles rather than be put into a tag team that clouded my judgement, or perhaps the fact that I really want Sean O'Haire to come back up from the minors and start doing Swanton Bombs again...
