While I can't help but feel some degree of satisfaction seeing so many ECW guys on WWF TV, I also couldn't help but feel a sort of queezy feeling in my stomach seeing Raven, Tommy Dreamer and Stevie Richards in the ring together tonight.

They were involved in one of the most intense, bloodiest, long-term hardcore fueds in wrestling history, and now they are reduced to fighting in this comical WWF style "hardcore" match. It's a shame most people will never know of their great performances from years ago.

Same goes for Bubba Ray, who was just sick at at points in his career, now being the goofy dancing fatman.

RVD is the last one to really carry on the legacy proudly. And how ironic is it that the man who currently best exemplifies the old ECW style, may actually be someone who never even worked for the company, Brock Lesnar.

The reason for that is simple... RVD can work a non-hardcore match. ECW was too extreme for too long and most of its wrestlers forgot how to work outside the Hardcore umbrella. That's why so many of them are stuck in crap feds like the XPW.

What's really sad that there was a time when ECW didn't automatically mean "no talent garbage wrestling." I actually remember when ECW had everyone's favorite workrate heroes (Benoit, Eddy, Malenko, Jericho, the luchadors) and there was variety on the card.

Once Paul couldn't keep up the financial realities of a economic wrestling, the show degenerated into brawls with weapons and sloppy highspot artists with no psychology. Even those who "could do better" (Raven, Stevie, Storm) really couldn't escape the muck and mire.

I found it hilarious that for like half-a-decade a feud was built around how Dreamer could never pin Raven... and then he does it as a non-event in a WWF hardcore clusterfrick. They should have done that somewhere on the east coast instead of Texas, where no one would get the rib.
