NOAH announced for the 7/18 "Destiny" Tokyo Dome Show:

Mitsuharu Misawa vs. Toshiaki Kawada

Since announcing his intention to take free agent dates outside of All Japan, many wondered if Kawada could work with Misawa. They have a long history of bad blood that pre-dates the NOAH/All Japan split. But apparently they can do business together and it could yield a tremendous match at NOAH's biggest show of the year at the Tokyo Dome 7/18.

Kawada showed up at the Budokan Hall after Misawa's match on 4/24 to issue the challenge for the Dome Show.

Kawada's eyes are pretty intense!

Kawada has been tremendous as of late. His Triple Crown match with Satoshi Kojima on 2/16 (match of the year candidate along with Angle/HBK) proved he is still one of the best workers in the world. I also feel Misawa will tremendous in this match. He's 42 (as is Kawada), but Misawa has proved recently in his 7/18 Sumo Hall match with Kojima and the 4/25 tag match against KENTA & Marufuji (both among the best five matches of 2004) that he's still capable of generating pure electricity in the ring like no other. Misawa's last ***** singles match was with Kobashi on the 3/1/03 NOAH Budokan show. With the emotion and intensity of facing Kawada coupled with the enormous crowd this could be a classic.

Also announced:

Kenta Kobashi vs. Kensuke Sasaki

This will be a stiff, brutally physical war. You'll probably see more chops, lariats, German and Northern Lights suplexes in twenty five minutes than you'll have seen all year. I'm kind of suprised they went this way with Kobashi as I thought after the 4/24 Budokan show, they were building toward a match with Tenyru.

So I guess they could have Tenyru face Rikio for the GHC Heavyweight Title, which could also be extremely stiff.

Zach Arnold over at www.puroresupower.com says that there's a possibility of a Takayama comeback at this show vs Rikio, as Takyama's agent says he's healed and will be ready to go then.

Last year's NOAH Tokyo Dome Show was the best show of the year and this year's is shaping up to be the same with great wrestlers like Jun Akiyama, KENTA & Marufuji, Kanemaru, Low Ki, SUWA and Suguira also appearing.

I am looking forward to this!

How does one watch this in the States? I watch very little Japanese wrestling, but I know enough to get excited about seeing Misawa vs. Kawada.

I was thinking the same thing. If this is something that would be available on tape, I'd love to see it. Please post here or PM me with details.

Thanks!

You'd have to wait until a tape dealer has it available for sale, but since this is a big show (pretty much going to be the puro equivalent of Mania this year since the NJ Dome shows look weak) I'm sure they'll try to get it out as soon as they can. It does look like a hell of a card.

There's a couple of ways you can see Japanese wrestling.

1) Most conventionally are the dvd/vhs dealers.

Wrestleholics Tapes
http://www.wrestleholicsvideos.com/
Alfredo has an incredible collection and his service is fast! He has just changed to dvd only, so he's adding newly transferred to dvd shows from his massive vhs collection each week. Alfredo's has pristine copies, crystal clear! Huge lucha selection as well.

Alfredo has an incredible Misawa/Kawada collection (All Japan commercial release--pristine) that includes their 6/3/94 battle, which was the match of the decade! Tremendous wrestling--perfection.

Misawa vs. Kawada: History of the Feud
http://www.wrestleholicsvideos.com/compilation/wdvd0060.htm
Misawa vs. Kawada (10-21-92)
Misawa vs. Kawada (7-29-93)
Misawa vs. Kawada (6-3-94)
Misawa vs. Kawada (7-24-95)
Misawa vs. Kawada (6-6-97)
Misawa vs. Kawada (5-1-98)

Golden Boy Tapes
http://www.goldenboytapes.com/
Rob has got the biggest collection out there and he's got incredible comp tapes (I have his Takayama and Chono comps and they rule!). He does vhs & dvd and his service is also very fast. Ridiculous selection, just staggering.

Puroresu DVD Source
http://www.pissedmafia.net/pds/
This is dvd exclusive. He gets the latest shows faster than anyone and the price is right. Not the deepest selection, but he has most everything from the last year though.

IVP Videos
http://www.ivpvideos.com/main/
Chris has great deals and always has some type of sale going on. He has the latest shows and he's been transferring his big collection of 80's & 90's to dvd, so he has updates every week.

2) IWTV (Internet Wrestling TV)
An online service provided by both NOAH & New Japan that provides the shows on the computer. I don't know much about it, but there's a faq about the New Japan IWTV service here:
