| #1 Posted on 24.4.05 1503.58 Reposted on: 24.4.12 1504.07 | I just saw that TNA was doing an entire PPV of nothing but Cage Matches. Has this ever been done before? Are they doing this because they want to or because it costs to much money to put the thing up and take the thing down?
It's been forever since I've caught a TNA event or even read about one. There are a few interesting looking matchups here, but by the time they get to showing AJ vs Abyss or Fallen Angel vs Primetime you will probably have seen every cage spot done twice. Also the clunkers on this card may take away from any enjoyment you might get from a deceant match.
It looks like a trainwreck to me on paper. I don't know what they are asking for this though. It's suppossed to go three hours. Here's your line-up ..
SIX SIDES OF STEEL: LETHAL LOCKDOWN RULES NWA World Heavyweight Champion Jeff Jarrett, The Alpha Male Monty Brown and The Outlaw vs. Diamond Dallas Page, Sean Waltman and a Partner To Be Announced
SIX SIDES OF STEEL: FOR THE NUMBER ONE CONTENDER The Phenomenal AJ Styles vs. Abyss
SIX SIDES OF STEEL: X CHAMPIONSHIP MATCH The Fallen Angel vs. Primetime
SIX SIDES OF STEEL FOR THE NWA TAG TEAM TITLE America's Most Wanted vs. Team Canada
SIX SIDES OF STEEL: TABLES MATCH The Charismatic Enigma Jeff Hardy vs. Raven
SIX SIDES OF STEEL: "PRINCE OF DARKNESS" DEATH MATCH (blindfold) Dustin Rhodes vs. Team Canada's Bobby Roode
SIX SIDES OF STEEL: "XSCAPE" MATCH Michael Shane vs. Sonjay Dutt vs. Chris Sabin vs. Shocker
SIX SIDES OF STEEL: CHALLENGE MATCH Apolo vs. Lance Hoyt

Hardy and Raven is going to be a train wreck. But I think AJ and Abyss in a cage, Daniels vs. Elix in a cage, AMW vs. Team Canada in a cage and the X Division four way in a cage could all be awesome matches, even if just a couple of them are I'll forget all about the overkill.
On a side note, who is Apolo? Is he the big masked guy who was in the X Division for a while?

I believe that's Abyss you're speaking of. Apolo's a Puerto Rican wrestler from the IWA.
Incidentally, I just clicked over to Meltzer, and he's saying that the Rhodes/Roode blindfold cage match is now also two out of three falls. Jesus wept. (Also, Apolo v. Hoyt is now Apolo/Siaki v. Hoyt/Candido.)

Dustin Rhodes in a 2-out-of-3-fall match?!?!?

Candido did a Nash and broke his leg in the ring, but it was a freak accident.
Hardy/Raven was a spot fest, as I expected, but was an enjoyable spot fest.
The blindfold match was silly when the blindfolds went on, but they ended it quickly.
That 6-man deal was a TRAINWRECK, not in a good way. Yawn. Oh, what was up with X-pac's ring gear. Sequence seethrough frilly top and bell-bottoms? He came of a little fruity...
AJ Styles/Abyss was a pretty damn fine fight. Styles was flying OVER the crowd and back again, and the Mankind-esque Abyss brought out the thumb tacks.
Was it just me, or was there someone busted open in EVERY match?

Oh yeah, that four-way cruiser match was AWESOME. That dude (Sonjay?) had a pretty sick twisting-450 move. Of course he was eliminated first (he was Kash's replacement?) and that Stifler looking guy won in a botched Mr. Wonderful/Hogan "Who hit the ground first!?!?!?" spot. He landed WAY too early for there to even be a question as to who won.

| #9 Posted on 25.4.05 0409.53 Reposted on: 25.4.12 0411.43 | I enjoyed it overall. Was the all-cage format overkill? Maybe -- but not in a bad way. I could definitely see it being a yearly event, especially if TNA uses restraint (ha!) and keeps down the number of cage matches the rest of the year.
Who ever had the idea to cut those small holes for the cameras to look through -- brilliant. The one thing I hate about cage matches is watching them through the blurry meshy haze of the cage.
Abyss/Styles -- easily match of the night. Unsurprisingly, Daniels/Skipper was good too. Lethal Lottery was pretty lame, as was Roode/Rhodes.
They need to fire David Young and bring back D-Ray 3000.
Wow, Candido just wraps up his phony "look! I'm in a wheelchair!' angle and then breaks his leg. Does that count as "ironic?"
Quezzy, you might be thinking of the man called X. He was a big guy in the X division and wore a mask. His finisher was an awesome-looking package piledriver, and he once did a senton from the top turnbuckle onto the entrance ramp. I think he was actually Carl Oulette. Apolo also appeared in a mask, as El Leon, but I don't think he did any X stuff.
Anyway. I thought it was pretty good.

Now that you mention it, I think I may have been confusing Sid's top rope leg break and Nash's torn quad. | Sobriquet

It just sounds... sad -- like they're trying way too hard to convince people that Jeff Hardy is both charismatic and enigmatic. Last I checked, characters that possessed these qualities didn't need to advertise them.
It's clunky and contrived. Though maybe if he became a comedy act heel, telling everyone just how charismatic and enigmatic he really is, it just might work. | Pope Corky the IX
