Eh, I think if Phil arrives in New York, he'll probably be at least moderately successful. I wouldn't despair too much if I were a Knicks fan (though I'm not easily confused with one), because despite the fact that this is a team that has no business even sniffing the playoffs, they "only" finished 33-49. The right coach could help this team overachieve.
But the roster situation clearly needs to be addressed. | BOSsportsfan34

I think you're underestimating the power of a good coach. Just take a look at the Denver Nuggets under George Karl in the second half of this season. Sure the Knicks' roster is a mess, but Phil Jackson is.. well, Phil Jackson. I say in one year, playoffs at the least, conference finals at the most.

Wow. As much as I think Jackson is an excellent coach, how many titles did he win as a coach when he didn't have 2 of the top 5 players in the NBA at that time on his team? Is there anyone currently on the Knicks rosters that is close to a top 5 player in the NBA? At best, you could say Marbury is top 20.
Phil's specialty is getting teams that underachieve to play like the champs they should be. Jeff Gordon won't win a NASCAR race driving a Honda Civic, and Jackson will be nowhere near a title with that mess in NY.
And as far as Karl goes, he's a similar type of coach to Jackson. Denver was underachieving until he took over. And Denver has much, much more talent on their roster than the Knicks. Only thing with Karl is; in another 2 or 3 seasons he will have pissed off all his players and he will be out of a job again.

Phil Jackson, who coached the Los Angeles Lakers from 1999-2004 and who earned three championship rings in the process, is scheduled to meet with Kobe Bryant in Los Angeles later this week.
The meeting could be seen as a step to Jackson possibly returning to coach the Lakers.
After all, in 2004, Jackson wrote a tell-all book called "The Last Season" about the 2003-04 season in which he characterized Bryant as bring difficult to coach. In the book Jackson wrote that he asked GM Mitch Kupchak to trade Bryant.
Jackson has already spoken to team owner Jerry Buss and plans to speak with him again soon.
