American Hockey League
The AHL playoffs are in the first-round match-ups. NHL affiliations (if any) are in brackets. Every series is Best of 7:
-Atlantic Division Semi: Providence Bruins (Boston) beat Manchester Monarchs (LA) 4-2
-Atlantic Division Semi: Lowell Lock Monsters (Calgary/Carolina) beat Hartford Wolf Pack (Rangers) 4-2
-East Division Semi: Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins (Pittsburgh) lead Binghamton Senators (Ottawa) 3-2
-East Division Semi: Philadelphia Phantoms (Flyers) lead Norfolk Admirals (Chicago) 3-2
-North Division Semi: Rochester Americans (Buffalo) beat Hamilton Bulldogs (Montreal) 4-0
-North Division Semi: Manitoba Moose (Vancouver) beat St. John's Maple Leafs (Toronto) 4-1
-West Division Semi: Chicago Wolves (Atlanta) beat Houston Aeros (Minnesota/Dallas) 4-1
-West Division Semi: Milwaukee Admirals (Nashville) & Cincinnati Mighty Ducks (Anaheim) are tied 3-3

And for the curious, a preliminary look at the second round of the Calder Cup Playoffs:
-Atlantic Division Final: Providence Bruins (BOS) vs. Lowell Lock Monsters (CGY/CAR)
-East Division Final: Philadelphia/Norfolk winner vs. Wilkes-Barre/Binghamton winner
-North Division Final: Rochester Americans (BUF) vs. Manitoba Moose (VAN)
-West Division Final: Chicago Wolves (ATL) vs. Milwaukee/Cincinnati winner

East Coast Hockey League:
The ECHL Conference Finals are about to begin!
-National Conference Final: Trenton Titans (Flyers) vs. Alaska Aces
-American Conference Finals: Florida Everblades (Carolina) vs. Charlotte Checkers (Rangers/Ottawa)

Western Hockey League:
The WHL playoffs are now deep into the third round.
-Eastern Conference Final: Brandon Wheat Kings leads Prince Albert Raiders 3-2. Game 6 is Sunday in Prince Albert.
-Western Conference Final: Kelowna Rockets lead Kootenay Ice 3-2. Game 6 is Sunday in Kelowna.

Quebec Major Junior Hockey League:
The QMJHL Finals are here!
-Coupe de President Finals: Rimouski Oceanic vs. Halifax Mooseheads

Ontario Hockey League:
It's time for the finals!
-OHL Championship Series: Ottawa 67s vs. London Knights.
London wins and they're in the Memorial Cup. They lose...and they're in the Memorial Cup anyway. I THINK Ottawa's in anyway, too.

The champions from the WHL, QMJHL & OHL will join the London Knights in the annual Memorial Cup tournament to declare Canadian major junior hockey champions. If London wins the OHL Championship, I believe that the runners up will join them in the tournament, since London's in no matter what.

This has been a fun series. Kelowna went 30-4-2 at home this year, and the T-Birds went up there and stole the first two games, and also won Game 5. You'd think they could've clinched the series with three road wins (all by one goal), but Kelowna's ALSO won three games on road, getting a shutout in each one (4-0, 7-0, and 2-0). Hopefully Seattle can get a totally improbable fourth road win tonight, which would be the first time that's happened in WHL history.

ECHL - The Alaska Aces are going to find the going a little tougher in this round as Scott gomez fractured his pubis bone and will be out 3-4 weeks.

Atlantic City now says good-bye to the Boardwalk Bullies as they pack their bags and head west to Stockton, CA for next season. The Bullies played in the AC Convention Center and it was a dump.

AHL - Let's Go Wolfpack !!!!

GO HAMILTON!!!!

(I know we'll get slaughtered, but a guy can hope!) :-)

EDIT: one final thought: The winner of the Memorial Cup should win the Stanley Cup.

Let's go Admirals (no, not those posers down in Norfolk -- your reigning Calder Cup Champion Milwaukee Admirals)!

I have a Milwaukee Admirals T-Shirt kicking around somewhere that my dad got when we went to a game around Thanksgiving of 1989. It fits neither one of us now.

I'm disapointed that my Fresno Falcons apparently didn't make the playoffs, but the coverage for them has sucked lately. (Even before the playoffs.)

Ah yes, the ones NOT named after a military rank, but rather for a brand of refridgerators.

And you are ALL MY sworn... ah, fuck it. I gave up on the Phantoms two years ago and the Bears are too far away to really get into.

The ECHL, on the other hand, is my new circle of interest. My Royals are two wins away from a return to the conference finals. The Pensacola Ice Pilots screwed the pooch in the American Conference, getting the best overall record in the regular season and going out in the first round largely thanks to OT losses in Games 1 and 2. Florida-Greenville's last game featured one brawl in the third that churned out eight game misconducts and a double game misconduct -- would've liked to have seen what happened THERE.

A fight like that warms my old time hockey heart.....

and while your Royals may be 2 wins away so are my Titans and the next 2 games with the Royals are in Trenton....

and back to the AHL - my Wolfpack took back home ice in Game 3 with Lowell and have a chance to go back to Hartford up 3 games to 1....

If the Titans sweep at home, I wouldn't be shocked or weep love's tender tears. Barry Brust has been carrying the Royals for the last month, and while a hot goalie is never a bad thing, I'm waiting for lax defense to cough up a big one. Ian "Two Minute" Turner in particular worries me, and Trenton has played the Royals tough all year.

Still, best of three, anything can happen.

And the Lock Monsters took Game 4 3-2 and the series goes back to Hartford tied 2 games apiece. Go Monsters!

YOUR Halifax Mooseheads just took care of their QMJHL semi-final series with Rouyn-Noranda 4-0.

Just waiting for Sidney Crosby and Rimouski...

One down. Sometimes I hate to be a prophet.

Damn, I want a Rimouski replica jersey in blue.

Matt Zultek of the Titans certainly picked a fine time to score his first playoff goal last night - he had been quite the disappointment this year what with his goal totals falling off from 35 last year to 12 this year. The real hero of the game was probably Andrew Allen with his 37 saves (5 in OT).....No matter who comes out of this series, the Alaska Aces are going to be well rested and waiting for a tired team to make it's way across the continent.

Bring on the Aces !!!

The Titans pulled off a Miracle Comeback (echl.com) last night in Trenton. Great series - Great final 2 games - this series could have gone either way.

And the Lowell Lock Monsters do what their half-parents the Calgary Flames did LAST year and knock off a higher seeded team in six. Coincidentally there's a bunch of Lowell players (Chuck Kobasew, Mike Commodore, Matt Lombardi, Lynn Loyns, Brennan Evans and goaltender Brent Krahn) were on the Flames roster when they went to the Cup finals last year, and the Flames old affiliate in Saint John won the Calder Cup in 2001.

Can the Lock Monsters do the same? Probably not. But they're facing the Providence Bruins in the next round, so it's not impossible for them to try. The Lock Monsters & The Bruins played a bunch of times this past year:

Oct 16: Lowell def. Providence 5-4 (shootout)
Oct 22: Providence def. Lowell 6-2
Nov 27: Providence def. Lowell 3-1
Dec 26: Providence def. Lowell 3-2
Jan 9: Lowell def. Providence 8-7 (shootout)
Feb 23: Providence def. Lowell 2-1
Mar 4: Lowell def. Providence 3-2
Mar 18: Providence def. Lowell 2-0
Apr 2: Providence def. Lowell 3-1
Apr 8: Lowell def. Providence 3-1

Seems pretty even.
