Very acceptable. Was that a quadruple turn that occurred when MSG started the 'You Screwed Matt' chant? If that wasn't crazy enough, the Let's Go Mabel chant might have been the 7th sign. Trip jobs to Jim Ross? God, we are really going to see a reign of terror once Trip gets #17 and doesn't have to drop and regain belts anymore. Vince seemed to be moving well. Christian in a main event? Hey, he got the shot before Edge, so losing the MITB match was a benefit for Christian. One time when Real American plays, Windham and Rotundo are going to come out and reclaim their music. Hogan looks more like Dusty Rhodes than Hogan these days in certain regions. Hassan is the weak member of his team. Also, if they are trying to get Masters over as a guy who poses, maybe having him come out after a Hogan/Michaels pose-a-thon isn't the best idea.

And it is those words that led the immortal Hulk Hogan to the ring to defend the honour of both Shawn Michaels, America, and freedom. This was a RAW to remember.
Not only did we see the return of the Hulkster, but the debut of the Heart Throbs. You thought the Butabi brothers were done after A Night at the Roxbury? You were wrong. Their slick dance moves and young heat confounded the champions to the point where an upset almost occurred.
If you want to talk surprises, here was the chairman, Vince McMahon, WALKING. And looking as good as ever. He out-charisma'd Christian in announcing the upcoming draft.
Other highlights: the crowd chanting "Let's go Mabel"; JR defeating HHH, yet not getting his music played; A new Fozzy song; and Big Vis getting his groove on with an obviously smitten women's champion. | The Great Thomas

CHristian was great in his segment with Vince. I loved the Raw Diva search line, and then when Vince told him he would fight Batista he did a great job of looking scared and then try to play off and act like he was cool with it. I would love to see Christian go to Smackdown and feud with Cena, I hope that is what happens, and this wasn't just a roundabout way of feeding Christian to Batista next week. | Mr Shh

Tyson Tomko is the greatest wrestler who shouldn't wrestle and just stand around and make facial expressions.
And Trish is the coolest cos she's strictly bidness.
Edit: And oh yeah, it was great how Batista's belt magically appeared at ringside.

| #9 Posted on 18.4.05 2226.15 Reposted on: 18.4.12 2227.21 | I briefly considered dropping the advisory to Low after watching the JR/HHH match play out exactly as it should have. (Other than maybe Batista doing the thumbs down and then demon bombing HHH on the chair to really drive the point home.) At this point, the Backlash finish is so obvious (Batista wins convincingly after kicking out of the Pedigree) a 5-year-old could book it.
If HHH's condition is as serious as Meltzer is saying, though, they seriously need to have HHH help Christian win next week and then build up a Batista/Christian match for Vengeance. It's new, fresh, interesting, and a true test to see if the Batista era has legs.
And let me just add: I love New York crowds. Those chants at Edge and Lita were things of beauty - I've pretty much forgiven them for booing Hassan at the debate back in January as a result... | BigSteve

This was a really good show I thought, but maybe I'm easily amused by the sublime and the ridiculous. That whole Trish-Lita-Viscera-Kane angle was so great. First off, we start with the greatest heel on Raw, Trish. The we have a rowdy New York crowd chanting "You screwed Matt" and "Let's go Mabel." Fantastic. "Strictly bidness"...oh boy, do I love her.
The Hearthrobs were amusing, I thought. I don't know if the gimmick has legs, but it was certainly different. And anything they do to add credible tag teams is fine by me. Plus we got to see great facials by the tag champs.
And speaking of facials, yes, Mr Shh, Tomko should just make facials. He and Christian are a really great comedy act, and I'd so like to see them go to Smackdown for Christian to kick Marky Mark's ass.
I'll admit it. I marked out for Hogan. Big time.

| #11 Posted on 18.4.05 2251.13 Reposted on: 18.4.12 2252.52 | Agreed. This Raw was poor, but not necessarily for lack of effort by the performers, it just looked like bad writing to me.
Opening match - show started off good enough, crowd was into it.
Trish and Lita on the mic - Trish almost saved the bit as she pretended she was diverting the crowd chants of "Slut" toward Lita, but when they were followed by "You screwed Edge" and "we want Matt" her threat to just go away was really what the crowd wanted. Kane might actually get to win a feud if they're feeding Big Vis to him. Vis' facial expressions as he carried Trish away were Kamala-esque.
Tag match - how weak is the division when a new team's debut has to be against the tag champs - and they lose their debut.
HBK/Hogan vs. Hassan/Daivari - seemed underwhelming to me. Perhaps it was my own projection, but the crowd seemed tired of Hogan already.
Fozzy watching Shelton sell for Simon Dean - Meh. I get a strong vibe that Jericho gets cheered more than Shelton when they do hook up at Backlash.
Vince segment w/ Christian & Tomko was, well, nice to see Vince walking around again. Vince still trying in vain to get the phrase CLB over.
Main Event - I was hoping for the whole backroom to run in to save JR - if everyone supposedly hates HHH that much, then why not? I did not need to see JR's bare midsection before heading off to bed tonight - now I have to take another Zantac.

Boy, did they hate Lita. Trish was a trooper and tried to act like she was getting that heat but the clearly audible "You Screwed Matt" chants were not for her.
"Let's Go Mabel!" - AWESOME.
One other thing: how do you end a Raw with aguably the most loyal audience in the WWE? With HHH beating JR up yet again. That went on sooooo long.

I was marking out with my mouth hanging open during the crowd chanting at Lita. I would have loved to been a fly on the wall in Matt Hardys house if he was watching that segment. I could see him pumping his fist while screaming at the tv: "Yeeeeeaaah !!!!.....how's it feel baby !!!!"
I couldn't tell if Lita was trying not to crack up laughing, or trying not to breakdown crying during the crowds taunting.
Heart Throbs....something about their look just doesn't match their name at all. When I hear Heart Throbs, I think of a couple of long haired, early 90's Shawn Michaels-like clones. Not a couple of Mafia looking leg breaker types dressed to look like Billy & Chuck.
I noticed that the camera cut away to the crowd when Vince got to the ring steps, then came back when he just entered the ring. Vince must have had a bit of a hard time with those steps for the amount of time the camera was cut away.
Christian was solid gold on the mic tonite. I loved the Cena/Marky Mark comment. Tomko did a great job with his facial expressions too. I liked how he would give a weak smile of approval to Christian whenever Christian was looking at him after the Batista/Christian match was announced....then as soon as Christian would turn away, he would give a look that plainly said: "Oh man, your gonna get killed."
I'm a huuuuge Hogan mark, but I think the posing segment with Michaels went a bit too long.
Jericho tonite unfortunately came off looking like a 10 year old. When he was singing that song, all I could think of was that South Park episode that takes place in Aspen, and the bully of the ski resort is playing the guitar and singing to Stan Marsh: "Staaaaaaaaan Darsh !!!!....Staaaaaaaan Darsh !!!"
Triple-H beatdown on J.R. went on waaaaaay too long.

That second slice on Ross' forehead was one of the most blatant blades I think I've ever seen. I like how guys that don't normally wrestle have weaker SKIN. It EXPLODES if it gets punched by HHH.
And Hogan swallowed Danny Devito. I'm convinced.

I wasn't sure who the crowd was for during the Trish/Lita promo, until the "You Screwed Matt" chants. And wow. Hearing Let's Go Mabel cracked me up. Speaking of Mabel, I think that's the first time I've heard him talk since he was doing the King Mabel gimmick. Surprise story line, but I think it might work.
Edge and Benoit, Hassan/Daivari and Hogan/HBK, and HHH and Batista all advanced pretty nicely, and Backlash is an event I'm gonna have to get.

As for the rest, it can pretty much be summed up with: Who booked this crap? Once again, Batista doesn't show up until the very end -- long after the guy who he's supposed to be backing up has been pounded into hamburger. Jericho buries Shelton with a funny promo that doesn't do much to establish him as a heel, and Shelton's only response is to struggle to beat Simon Dean and then hold up his belt for two seconds before they cut to the Smackdown Rebound. And Hassan once again comes off as Mr. Unrealized Potential 2005; if Hogan and Michaels actually put him and Daivari over, it will be a such a miracle that they'll have to issue a supplement to the Bible.
I admit I kinda liked the Masterlock Challenge, blatant plant and all, but it's going to get old quickly. Like, say, one week. | JoshMann

| #19 Posted on 19.4.05 0001.56 Reposted on: 19.4.12 0001.57 | The first half of the show was really good, but there's a big dividing line on this show that comes after the Hogan segment where the show just drifts off.
I didn't even think of why Batista would be behind the wheel until AFTER Dave popped out of the car, because there would have been a MAJOR logic gap in "Why would the limo driver bring him back just in time to make a save when by all rights he should be somewhere in New Jersey?". I guess the implied FUBAR-ing of the limo driver was left for us to figure out for ourselves. But while they think they're protecting him from overexposure, he has to first be exposed to be overexposed, and showing up 5 minutes per show isn't going to do that.
I'm surprised they're waiting a month for the lottery, since that the next month is going to be the entire WWE running in place until they hit the big shiny reset button. It's almost as if the next 2-3 weeks is about to be written off, and the time not to do that is when you have not one, but TWO new champions who are both trying to find their new identities.
