Tonight was the season finale. Any word if a third one's on the way?

If it was the last one, at least they crammed everything in and went out with a bang.

There were so many good things about this episode, it's hard to count. I was disappointed, though, that Annyong was nowhere to be found. I read that he was to be in the episodes that were cut, which just makes me sad.

PASTED POSTE

- So emotional. Look at me, crying like a little girl.

- The George Michael and Maeby kiss was AMAZING. And pretty hot. The floor falling in on them was a tremendous visual. This whole scene was my favorite thing ever.

- "Pop Secret" is perhaps the best pun they've ever done, up there with "Get rid of the Seaward."

- George Sr's speech to the family was about the most touching thing I'd ever seen, even if they immediately blew it up with Tobias leaving Lindsay and the Oscar trap.

- Callbacks that gave me (douche) chills was when George Michael did the Peanuts walk and when the Marta arriba music started playing for the GOB/Michael rematch.

- Funniest part was Franklin coming out of the washing machine white and with a British accent. "You've ruined the act, GOB."

- And I love the fact that George Sr. really likes Franklin and was happy to see him.

- Unlike last year's finale, it really didn't tie up all the loose ends and leave us in a happy place if it were to double as the series finale. This time they blew it up with all those cliffhangers as if to say, Now there hasta be a third season or else, because we gotsta know what's going to happen with GM/Maeby, Kobias in Vegas, and Oscar in jail.

- I guess we have to sit tight until like May 19 to see what's up. Or New Guy Liguori could let us relax and renew it before then as a show of good faith and caged wisdom.

- Season 1 was tighter, Season 2 was more spectacular, both comprise my favorite and/or the best show of all time. Emmys for everybody.

Amazing, amazing episode. So many throwbacks to old episodes, and a LOT of stuff was resolved.

But I want another season, damn it, to see what happens next.

As it is, the best show on TV just finished another great season.

I was literally emotionally exhausted after watching the episode and had to lay down for a little bit. Too much hysterical laughter punctuated by the moments of poignancy that the show musters up for the people who care for its characters just left me completely worn out. There is too much to list here in terms of classic bits.

I'd say this season had better standout episodes, but the first season was tighter and more coherent at points. Either way, no show on TV (free or pay) can touch this on its BEST day. I've got high hopes for a season three.

There's not much I could say that others haven't. I really (and stupidly) thought that I would be one of the few who noticed the Marta music when GOB and Michael were fighting so horribly. I loved how Buster finally figured out that Oscar is (maybe) his dad during the ONE time that Oscar wasn't trying to secretly tell him. And I've been waiting for G.M. and Maeby to get at least somewhat back to where they were last season, and that kiss made the whole episode for me. And to end it with me getting my faith back in George Sr. by having him switch places with Oscar was great.

I recorded the show and had to keep pausing it every couple minutes to let myself stop laughing before moving forward. I think I watched the entire episode with a huge open-mouthed and wide-eyed grin on my face. I don't see the point in FOX waiting until May 19th to renew it if they already are planning on doing so, but hopefully they'll just go ahead and announce it without making everyone wait for the news. I think the next week or so would be the best time to capitalize on such a great last month or so. Let people talk about it, announce that it's coming back so others won't feel like they're wasting their time, and then hopefully when the re-runs start (I'm guessing American Dad won't last that long) people will catch the last 6 episodes and see what they've been missing. Or not. Screw 'em, as long as this show comes back I could be the only one watching it and not care less.

Ack. Downloading and haven't seen it.

I don't mean to be a rumormonger, but I've heard tell that the new guy in charge of FOX is high on the show.

Ohpleaseohpleaseohplease. 3rd season? Maybe a 5 year deal?? That would make my life.

I'm a little confused because they did the "Next Week" thing, which made it seem like a regular episode. Perhaps they were just being hopeful?

That said -- just an amazing show last night. The Franklin CD, the George Michael-Mabey interaction, Tobias' resignation speech, the return of Kitty and George Sr. finally getting his revenge on Oscar. Amazing stuff! My favorite line was Barry's "Oh, I'm not prepared for this case."

I so hope someone at HBO or whatever wakes up and signs these guys to a series elsewhere.

It was actually not the "next week" thing, if you listen he says "Next season on Arrested Development", following the pattern of wishful thinking from last season, I think.

Are you sure? I could've sworn they said "next week" and then "two weeks" or something like that when they showed Oscar in jail.

That said, I could have totally missed the distinction....

I loved the whole talk about "Les Cousins Dangereux" copping out by having them not biologically related, and then Ron Howard slipping that in when they kissed. But I loved it even more when I kept watching what was on my VCR tape and came across the Uncle Jack episode, where Howard kept stressing that Jack was not their biological uncle. Awesome!

Also, big props to Howard for showing us how TRUE narration is done last week.

Where things stand now (for followers of the show, both die-hard and casual):

Spoiler Below: Highlight text to read

-Oscar's in jail. George Sr. shaved his head and Oscar burnt his hands on the Cornballer, so Oscar can't prove that he's NOT George Sr.
-George Sr. is in Las Vegas with the Blue Man Group.
-Lucille's got nobody.
-GOB & Michael reconnected as brothers. Michael's still President of the Bluth Company and no longer being investigated since his "father" is in custody.
-Tobias & Kitty went to Las Vegas so that Tobias could join the Blue Man Group, but since George Sr. took Tobias' spot, who knows what'll happen there.
-Oh, and Kitty has George Sr.'s sperm.
-Buster knows Oscar's his father.
-Oh, and George Michael & Maeby kissed, but George Michael's still going out with Bland...er...Ann.
-And according to the "Next week..." gags from a few episodes back, GOB is Steve Holt's father and Maggie Lizer's actually pregnant.

Man, I hope they renew this show.

I could've sworn it actually said "On the NEXT Arrested Development" at the end. No specific mention if it's next week or next season.

Maybe you guys got the special Canadian version, since I distinctly heard "next season" as well.

Ah... was avoiding this thread while I downloaded the episode. In a cruel twist of fate, I had to drive across the state last night and had to miss the season finale. But now all is well.

- Ron Howard definitely says "on the next season."
- The graphic merely says "on the next," followed by the red marker pointing to "Arrested Development" and circling it. Same as last year, basically.

That said, guest star Marc Cherry had me rolling. "It's supposed to be a SATIRE!"

I do hope they bring in John Larroquette next season, as well as maybe Quincy Jones, for guest spots. I like the parallel of Kitty having a weird thing for Dan Fielding and Starla The Business Model having a thing for Quincy Jones. (Hey, if he's never heard of her, how does she have all those gold and platinum records of his?)

The cousins' kiss was hilariously awkward and also sweet, but I hope it just leads to more tension. Personally, my ideal scenario would be Steve Holt discovering that GOB is his father, and Maeby immediately realizing that she has a crush on her other cousin. That way, the writers could play around with an unrequited progression: George Michael has forbidden yearnings for Maeby who has forbidden yearnings for Steve Holt(!). Steve, of course, would be oblivious.

I also love GOB's commitment to awful rock music. So far, he loves "The Final Countdown," Foreigner's "Cold as Ice" and apparently a nauseating dash of Bryan Adams. I can't wait to see what gets added next year.

Come on, guaranteed multi-year contract!

According to Zap2It, the season finale did a 3.6 rating with a 6 share, good enough for third in the timeslot (behind Cold Case on CBS and Extreme Makeover Home Edition on ABC). A surprisingly good ep of the Simpsons did a 5.0 with a 9 share in the preceding half-hour.

Don't forget his rendition of "Love Is In The Air", played whenever he & Marta made love.

The two weeks later comes from "On the next season of Arrested Development..." when poor Oscar realizes after two weeks in jail that due to stress, his hair won't grow back to exonerate him.

I suspicion that when they finally get around to visiting him, we'll get the return of prison~~ scenes~~ next year with Oscar unsuccessfully trying to convince Buster (et al) that he's not George Sr. NO TOUCHING.

(That leads, hopefully, to Buster incarcerating himself to spend time with his father, a la GOB and Tobias in season 1, and another strange, Jim Abbottesque game of catch between father and son in the prison yard.)

Another nugget of goodness:

On the DVD cover of Les Cousins Dangereaux, the quote "A 'relative' masterpiece of complex eroticism" is attributed to one Tim Goodman, of the San Francisco Chronicle.

I guess when the writers like you, they're not ashamed to say so.
