I disagreed with the war in Iraq, but agreed with going into Afghanistan, and the general idea that we need to go after terrorists with no mercy. And when arguing with people it always came back to the idea that "do you think your good intentions and well-wishes for the oppressed will save you?" No one gets special dispensation from terror for being a good person, hence the need to attack with force. And sadly, this fact was proven once more. | Promote this thread! | | DrOp

She was in a warzone and got killed. Car bombs don't selectively target those in support of the war. There is nothing unexpected or ironic about a humanitarian being killed in a warzone. | DrDirt

Agreed. And remember, we consider her a humanitarian. To many insurgents she is as culpable as we are. Her success is not their success. They did a feature on her life on NPR this morning and I think she was someone I would have liked to have known. | CHAPLOW

Sounds to me like a GOOD reason to be anti-war*

| #10 Posted on 19.4.05 0021.22 Reposted on: 19.4.12 0021.36 | For those who need a refresher (with help from good ole Dictionary.com):
ironic also ironical adj. 1. Characterized by or constituting irony. 2. Given to the use of irony. See Synonyms at sarcastic. 3. Poignantly contrary to what was expected or intended: madness, an ironic fate for such a clear thinker.
One does not expect a clear thinker to go mad. Just like it would be ironic for an AOL chatroom monitor to prey on the flock he swore to protect. | Guru Zim

I'm still not seeing it.
It would be ironic if she had said "War can't possibly hurt a person." -- and then was killed in a war.
She said war was bad, and she ended up dying in a war. Sounds like her opinion was validated.
Irony depends on a juxtaposition of one event with another event of the opposite nature, if you look at it with the common definition. That's not what happened here. | OlFuzzyBastard

Well, obviously, because you keep "arguing" and you're wrong.
I'm not going NUTS over this, but a lot of people tend to just post whatever they feel like without putting any thought into what they're actually SAYING. Since I am an opponent of this behaviour, I tend to try to discourage it. | CHAPLOW
