Nobody got hurt, nobody got HIT, nobody got anything more rough that what would happen in a crowded subway car.
I just dont see where the fury at Sheffield is coming from.
I agree. Sheffield had to have been on edge (no one here's played the Fenway outfield as a Yankee, so I guess I'm just assuming) and for experiencing something that may or may not have been accidental, he seemed to hold it together pretty well. I'm not convinced that the fan's actions were accidental, either.
Chalk up another "Yankee-hater" on board with the opinion that Sheffield's actions were understandable in this situation. | Brian P. Dermody

Ever been to a baseball game in... well, anywhere? Every team has drunken idiot loudass obnoxious fans. Yeah yeah, I bleed pinstripes, but there are embarrassingly inappropriate asshat fans everywhere I've seen an MLB game. Except Montreal. We don't even throw batteries at the opposition's right-fielder anymore.

| #23 Posted on 15.4.05 1745.43 Reposted on: 15.4.12 1746.20 | I'll take Sheffield's side. It looked more like the fan was taking a swipe at Sheffield than trying to field the ball. He could get his team an extra run by interfering with Sheffield, so why not.
As for consequences; Sheffield regardless will get suspended 1-3 games and the fan will get nothing but hero treatment because baseball can't punish fans.
The only real criminal act last night was the beaning of Castilla and the strikezone interpretation. If any fan would've taken a swing at the homeplate umpire, it would've been fine by me. | StaggerLee

A little bit of insight from a guy who was there (with pictures).
The difference between this and Milton Bradley was Bradley was a raving lunatic when his stuff happened, and it looked far more embarrasing for baseball with what happened with him. | BigDaddyLoco

| #26 Posted on 16.4.05 0053.17 Reposted on: 16.4.12 0055.50 | Less than 24 hrs after the Sheffield interference case, a dumbsh...err FAN in Denver interfered with Rockies outfielder Matt Holliday. (image removed) It was originally ruled a home run, but then changed to a ground rule double. I was in attendance, sitting about 20 feet to left of this picture, and could hear SEVERAL fans yelling "let him (Holliday) catch it". Dumbass got boo'ed afterwards, but he had no idea what he had done wrong.
