It seems like ABC has already been moving to phase him out, though -- Mrs. Shem and I watch World News Tonight, and it seems like half the time someone else is standing in for him. | Roy.

I think he's been out because of the lung cancer. He's apparently been pretty unhealthy for a while, with respiratory infections and the like, until they realized that it was cancer.

| #4 Posted on 6.4.05 2342.29 Reposted on: 6.4.12 2344.50 | He has been out due to the cancer; if you hear his voice, it's completely changed from what it used to be. It makes sense (well -- what was Bob Scheiffer doing) why Brian Williams was the only main anchor on the day of the Pope's death on-air.
This puts ABC in a good ol' conundrum, if you ask me; Jennings will have to step down eventually, and Koppel already is stepping down. Do you bring in Charlie Gibson from GMA? Do that and your GMA ratings could slip a bit... and they're nipping on Today's heels here and there.
You could go off the board and stick with Elizabeth Vargas; it would be an alternative choice in that other than Connie Chung, you really haven't had a main female anchor.
Personally? I'd say Anderson Cooper, but that's just me. He's been able to handle big news events at CNN; he's done news and entertainment for the MouseNet... and once again, a counter-programming in younger demos (if there are any in network nightly news) against Williams. | ALL ORIGINAL POSTS IN THIS THREAD ARE NOW AVAILABLE |
