If the response to the Gomery testimony had been neutral and the Grits were still polling strong maybe you could make the case that an election isn't warranted, but I think those numbers are quite telling. The West always goes Conservative. No questions asked. Quebec will almost certainly go to the Bloc. The only question is whether or not enough seats in Ontario and the Maritimes fall to the Conservatives to give them a government. The Tories are polling like CRAZY. As soon as they're DAMN CERTAIN that an election would give 'em a win, they'll go for it.
Oh, and apparently Ralph Klein (Alberta premier and Conservative messiah out here) will actively campaign for the Tories. Hurrah. | BigVitoMark

He doesn't win the CPC a single vote they wouldn't get on their own, and his talk of private health care during the campaign last time turned the tide back to the Liberals to stay. If he really wants to help, he should just shut his mouth.
As far as Martin convincing people that it was the Chretien Liberals that were crooked, well, I think he got all the mileage out of that he could last time. He was able to puff his chest out and say he wanted to find the corruption a year ago when all we had was speculation. Now we've got testimony that the Liberals paid people off and stole taxpayer money. His public begging last week of Harper to delay the vote until the fall didn't look good, and isn't going to work.
