ABC News: Springer's Show to Go National

I mean, I love Air America Radio as much as the next guy, but why Jerry Springer? I mean, the idea of a liberal talk radio station is already hard enough to sell without having the guy who used to parade freaks around on a syndicated talk show taking up airtime. Seriously, why go with Springer?

I've never really watched his show, but anytime I've seen him in another show or some other place, he always seemed like a pretty engaging personality. Assuming his style translates to radio (and I think it does) I think Jerry can find ratings no matter what he chooses to talk about.

Well, once Michael Coleman declared he was running, that pretty much was the end for Jerry.

As for him on radio, he's actually surprisingly good at a normal talk show when he doesn't just rely on freaks to get ratings. He's very passionate about politics and the other issues of the day and does a good job of actually expressing his ideas in a thoughtful way, as opposed to having his guests beat each other with chairs.

In the early days around it's inception, the Jerry Springer TV show was actually a serious show without freaks, aiming at integrity. However, when you can make more money and higher ratings by having Peggy Sue and Bobby Joe duke it out...
