What accounts for the emergence of "The New Right" in the last twenty years in Europe?

So far I got a rundown of Thatcherism, neo-conservative values, and reduction of Keynesian economics.

LJS - hoping this won't be deleted as it relates to politics

I would say one area sure to be relevant to your paper would be immigration trends in Europe, particularly regarding refugees from Africa (thinking France and the Algerian problem) and the Middle East. There have been some major backlash movements against these groups which have fueled the movement.

Good advice. Immigration is a red hot issue in the UK. It may be worth Googling the "British National Party", who, I think, won local government seats after race riots in Burnley and Blackburn a couple of years ago.

You may want to draw a distinction between the "new right" in Europe and "neo-conservatism." Don't know a whole lot about either categorization, but I heard Bill Kristol on CSPAN talking about the weakness of neo-conservatism in Europe recently. You could probably search back issues of *National Review* for relevent articles.
