Green Bay's free agency moves (Packers.com)
The Pack couldn't come to terms with Mike Wahle, the starting left guard the last 4 seasons, and let him go to free agency to avoid an $11 million cap hit.
Even worse, starting RG Marco Rivera may be gone as well. Green Bay didn't even tender him an offer, and he says he doesn't expect to be back at Lambeau in 2005. (Courtesy WBAY-TV...my employer)
And on top of it all, the man who filled in at center for the injured Mike Flanagan in 11 of 13 games, Grey Rugamer, is gone too.

Love this move for Carolina... the article mentioned him possibly playing right tackle... I don't know much about him, besides reading numerous articles about him being one of the top guys out there, but I wonder if it'd be possible for him to play right guard and then they could draft Alex Barron in the draft like 99% of the mock drafts have them doing. Great move, though. | Jaguar

Not only is Wahle talking to Carolina, but the Cowboys are trying to sign Rivera in time to introduce him along with their 2 defensive free agent signees (I heard on TV this morning.)
Plus, rumor is DB Darren Sharper won't accept a pay cut, and might thus get cut from the team. Makes sense...the one goddamn decent player in the secondary. Let's get rid o'him, eh?
At least Bhawoh Jue might leave for San Diego. How he wasnt't on the same train outta town as Jamal Reynolds is beyond me...but then again, so is the logic of letting the f'n team fall apart like this. | Roy.

The Vikes will rule this division without a problem. No Moss means they can run their talented crop of backs more freeing up receivers. Their D should improve as well as their team chemistry.

The best offensive line in the NFL is no more.
Except that it was common knowledge going into the off-season that Wahle wouldn't be back. He was signed to a back loaded contract that included some ridiculous salary figure for this year. While he had publicly commented that he'd like to stay, he was going to get huge money to leave.
Rivera was the same story -- he was going to get some big bucks to go elsewhere, and the Packers couldn't afford to keep paying their lineman big bucks, especially with that awful defense. | ALL ORIGINAL POSTS IN THIS THREAD ARE NOW AVAILABLE |
